I succumbed to Quicken blackmail last year and renewed my subscription to get rid of the renewal banner on the left side of the screen. It is that time again and here is the banner. I see also that pop-up reminder windows have been added and at times I am locked out of "Bills" until I close and reopen the program.

I don't routinely download work in the program or from financial institutions because I don't get the level of detail I desire. So the subscription is only so valuable to me. I am only here because I haven't found another financial program to migrate to and I prefer not having to learn a whole new platform.

Been using Quicken since early 1980s. Used the Inventory element, the planning element, and others. Now all gone. Well done Quicken on recognizing your loyal customer base. So disappointing. [Removed - Rant] The community built you. Thanks

HHS

Quicken Classic - Windows Version (v R68.31)

So, I finally saw and tried out the Monte Carlo simulation on Quicken Classic for Windows. I recently had an engagement with a financial planner and wanted to compare results. My planner's software (not sure what he used) showed us a 99.9% success rate, while Quicken has us at 84% with the 10th percentile at $0. I've compared assumptions and do not see anything significant to warrant this difference (rate of return, inflation, expenses, taxes, life expectancy). In addition, I just plugged my financial data into an AI and get the same results as my planner.

I'm looking at my portfolio, it's a good amount, and I wondering how anyone can get above 95% using Quicken's model. My AI is saying that it's highly unlikely to go to $0 in my situation, much less a 16% chance.

Anyone else running this simulation and questioning the results?

I use budgeting regularly to manage my wife and my spending. So I have a valid budget with categories I want to use for every spending transaction. After a one step update, quicken classic for windows will suggest a category like 'fast food' which is NOT a category in use for the current budget. But my allowance or my wife's allowance IS a valid category. How do I get quicken to NEVER auto-allocate a transaction to these categories that DO NOT EXIST in my current budget?

Thanks,

Jim - 25 year plus user!

For example, I have a PARENT CATEGORY A with 20 subcategories and I want to move 10 of the subcatetories to a new PARENT CATEGORY B. In the past, I would have to individually open all of the 10 subcateories and assign them a new parent category.

Is there a way to "bulk" reassign them, or is there a way to "drag and drop" them into the new parent category? They old way is just a pain to do.

I open and close a lot of bank accounts to earn new account bonuses. (It's a lucrative low-effort side gig.) To reduce clutter, I close and hide the accounts in Quicken after they're closed.

After the last major budget update, Quicken now removes those accounts from the budget. Even if I add them back, they don't stick. That makes budget reports very wrong.

That makes no sense. I may have used an account in January and February, then closed it in March. It should remain part of that budget until I intentionally remove it. Otherwise the cash flow is all wrong.

Somebody at Quicken needs to review that behavior and correct it. Under no circumstances should Quicken remove a category or account of its own accord, except maybe a "separate" account. Even that's questionable.

Windows 11, R68.31

It seems to me that in the past, if you had a rollover balance at the end of the year (in the rollover summary column), that balance would roll right into January of the next year without having to do anything.

Today, it doesn't do that. As an example:

I budget $550 per month to cover my property taxes, which are paid in 2 unequal installments (Pennsylvania). The first installment is due in March, and is around $2200, and the second in August, at around $4100. At the end of 2025, I had a positive rollover balance showing in the summary column of $1100. In January of 2026, it showed the budget amount of $550, zero actual (not paid until March), and a rollover amount for January of $550. It should have been $1650.

I can see a workaround—add the rollover summary amount at the end of the year to the monthly budget amount as the "january budget' to make the rollover come out right, and that is do-able. But I wonder, why won't it rollover from year to year as I recall that it used to?

To make Quicken tax planner give you $2,000 MFJ/ $1,000 Single universal charitable deduction (cash to charity) and calculate NIIT correctly do this: 1) add $2,000 to Adjustments > Other Adjustments field - this gets the income tax correct. 2) add $2,000 to Other Taxes and Credits > NII AGI adjustments (under AMT, this is not AMT but it works) - this gets the NIIT tax correct.

For NIIT you must do this because of how Quicken does its internal MAGI calculation table, you must manually manipulate this field to reduce your NIIT exposure.

Must do both steps to make it work for non-itemizers. If you do itemized deduction and it works for you then disregard this. This deduction starts in tax year 2026 and was made permanent with One Big Beautiful Bill. Note: we put Foreign tax credits in same AMT area, under credits: Other Taxes and Credits > Credits (again not AMT but it works). The Finance Buff published:
2026 2027 Federal Income Tax Calculator for Retirees
and so in checking with Quicken Tax Planner, it was close and noticed the discrepancy in our tax planner - we forgot the NII AGI Adjustment. Now we are same as his (except Quicken does Rental sales - recaptured depreciation better than Harry Sit's, but else it was identical. Quicken's tax planner is still better - way more fields to enter data, plus most of tax informatoin is is already populated in Quicken.

I'm posting the reply by support here. Just want to know what the schedule is to correct. Cannot using the Planning tab to it's potential as all "Other" categories don't add up.

Here is the response from Support in June:

Thank you for reaching out and for providing such detailed
information about the issue you're experiencing. The details you've
shared are very helpful.

"I was able to replicate the behavior on my end. Based on my observations, the "Other Shopping" category does not appear to be treated as a separate category within
the standard category list. Since the budget includes transactions
categorized under Shopping, Quicken may be interpreting Other Shopping as part of the main Shopping category and excluding it separately to prevent duplicate counting.

I have a few payments that I budget a monthly amount and rollover that pay quarterly or semi-annually, such as car insurance and property taxes.

Here's the question:

In the month it's paid, let's say the monthly budget is $300, with an $1800 payment in March and September. If I pay it like that, I get an overbudget warning for the month because $1800 is a lot bigger than $300. If I put in $1800 in the budget line for the month, then my carryover amount gets messed up.

What's the right way to do it?

I know, this has probably been answered 1000 times.

I read I can simply make sure that within all the budget categories that "tax" categories are unchecked. I actually have all the tax categories unchecked with the exception of Property tax yet my Fed and State payments are still showing up within the budget. What am I missing or not doing here?

Here is my cycle for the month. I have a WordPerfect Table that I call GorBud into which I put all my income and expenses. GorBud tells me whether I should be happy or not. Normally "Not" But I work the problem and then I am less unhappy to even being happy.

I now have Balance in GorBud. I balance my Bank's Checking Account with Quicken and then the three balances are the same: GorBud, Quicken, and Bank's Checking Account.

I then look at say five bills (Electricity, Nat Gas, Auto Insurance, etc.) and I go on-line and pay them. All say thanks, but ONLY one or two put through a quick Debit to my Checking account. When they do I make a corresponding Quicken EFT transaction, and also make Balance changes to GorBud.

This is essentially the same info in three places… NOT a good solution. Further, some of the "paid bills don't put through a Checking Account Debit for a week or more. That makes the three balances "out of wack" with each other. Again, NOT GOOD.

I think what would HELP is if I could put "GorBud" entirely into Quicken. It would be "QuickenGorBud." As I pay a bill On-line I would immediately make a "QuickenGorBud" EFT transaction. I would then IGNORE my bank's Online Balance until the end of the actual month which, by then has all of the month's transactions processed. What is then in "QuickentGorBud" would tell me just where I am on my Monthly Budgeting.

OK, guys, how can I put a GorBud into Quickent to make a QuickenGorBud?

So, there was a problem with this release as described in the attached thread and it was admitted being a regression by Quicken updates - ok not a problem, software has bugs. Given this is a regression to existing functionality, I expected the problem to be fixed quickly - just revert the change that caused the issue and release whatever broke it later with a fix. Fast forward 4 months and the problem is still there, hey Quicken what's up?

I am an engineering manager for a cloud based software company. I actually own the infra used for deploying software across the fleet and our primary tenant is 'don't break existing use cases'. If you do, mitigate quickly with a fix, a revert or flip a flag to turn off whatever behavior was involved in the change. This keeps software flowing without having to roll back versions so that critical fixes can keep going out. After looking at the release notes for versions since this bug was introduced, you WANT the new versions given some of the descriptions but to accept that means I have to accept this bug not yet fix and the main dashboard I use to track my monthly expenses is busted in the process.

Quicken support, what is up here!?

Dashboard problem with Release R65.15 — Quicken

In Tax Planner under Withholdings, it's pulling up all of the withholdings from my paycheck in my Ally Checking account. I have also taken some pre-tax IRA distributions from my Fidelity account. Those transactions show up as Withdrawals and I have categorized them using Tax:Fed. Those are not showing up in Tax Planner. Can someone tell me why and what I need to do to have these withholdings get picked up in Tax Planner? Thanks.

As a reminder, back in December of 2025 a bug was introduced that prevented the display of progress bars in the budget view. It was confirmed as a bug yet release after release has come and gone and it is still not fixed. I love Quicken and use it daily, but I can not understand how things continue to be added each release while known problems go unfixed (if that is a word). Please get this fixed……Below is the note from back in December

Hello All,

Thank you all for taking the time to report this issue. We understand how disruptive it is to lose the budget progress bars on the Home tab, especially when this functionality is something many of you rely on daily.

This behavior has been confirmed as a bug introduced in the recent update, and it is currently being actively worked on by our development team. The issue is being tracked internally, and a fix is in progress. At this time, however, we don’t have an ETA for when the fix will be released.

Once a fix is available, it will be included in a future update.

Thank you for your patience!

I am using Quicken Deluxe Version R67.10 for Windows 11. See the attached screenshot of the Planning, All Details. The circled -676 Shopping category in the To Date Balance is not including the Other Shopping subcategory (should be -676+417=-259) The circled -76 in the 2026 Summary Balance does not include the Other Shopping Category (should be -76+2217 = 2141). All other categories work correctly. Any idea as to why this is occurring?

This issue of recurring (bi-weekly, twice per month, etc. etc. has been an issue for a very long time. I found several posts and the Quicken team keeps closing them due to "low activity" or some other nonsense as seen here below. I for one encourage everyone to create tickets for this and force Quicken to deal with this. Budgeting and forecasting is one of the main tool functions and if you cannot reliable use the budget tool to see what upcoming monthly expenses look like, then it is worthless. There are strength in numbers and I have to believe (as I've seen in threads) I am not the only one having this annoying, important issue and seeing be unresolved for years is totally unacceptable as we see our annual subscription cost going up every year.

Below non-answer from Quicken support is from January 2025. Totally unacceptable!

We are aware of an issue where customers are trying to add reminders to budgets, but those reminders are not being recorded correctly. For example—you may enter a reminder frequency of twice monthly, but the reminder only shows twice in January and once for every other month of the budget. This also happens in reverse, where adding a reminder frequency of only once creates multiple reminders.

This has been escalated internally, though we do not have an ETA at this time.

To be notified of updates as they become available, please click the bookmark ribbon located in the upper right.

Is there a way to print the Planning --> Savings Goal Tab from desktop?

I keep trying to print my list of savings goals from the Planning --> Savings Goal tab, but all that prints is "Planning" with the current date (attached example). The rest of the page is blank. I've attempted to use File —> Print, I've attempted Ctrl P, I've tried a file, I've tried PDF, I've tried exporting. Nothing. I get nothing. It says I'm goalless just wandering aimlessly with no clear destination like Alice in Wonderland. Consider this request as Alice going to the Cheshire Cat, but at least I have a little direction in my request. As if printing wasn't bad enough, I'm now referencing childhood memories… Yes, I'm a Gen-Xer and I want to print something. I'm losing my mind and need assistance.

I have a question regarding the Lifetime Planner… specifically when I select to modify the Planning Assumptions. The first screen that shows is the “About you” page. The page, as displayed, does not fit within the window provided. Even if I adjust the window-sizer scrollbar across the bottom fully to the right, the right-most numbers/information is chopped off. There doesn’t appear to be a way to view the right-most information. This is true for all of the Assumption screens (such as Salary, Retirement Benefits, etc.).

Admittedly I have not looked at the Lifetime Planner screens for over ten years now. All of the information I entered many years ago is now outdated. But with the addition of the Monte Carlo simulation model, I thought I’d take a fresh look. This means, I don’t know if the right-most chopped-off information bug has been newly introduced with this latest update (R67.7) or, was this something that’s been the case for several years.

Regardless, does anybody know how to adjust the Planning Assumptions window size to stretch it such that the data that’s supposed to be displayed is actually there? The window does not seem to be sizeable.
