Two questions …. I hope that is ok. For context, I have a Personal Quicken file and a newly created Business Quicken File

I have two copies of the Personal file. The one that I knew about and used (use) is in
/Documents
. The
data
file is currently 67M and was last modified yesterday. The one I didn't know about is in
Library/Application Support/Quicken/Documents
, is 1.8M, and was created and last modified on the 16th of March. I would like to delete the one in
Library/Application Support/Quicken/Documents
because I'm afraid it is going to get selected by mistake at some point and confuse me. But I'm also very curious if anyone has any ideas of how it got created. I was doing all kinds of weird stuff that day like making copies of the data file but never in that particular directory. I'm also wondering the pros and cons with having the Quicken file in
~/Documents
.

I strongly suspect the answer to this question is "No" but … I want to export my Fidelity transactions for one account out of my Personal Quicken file and import them into my Business Quicken file. Is there any practical way to do this?

I am a long time Quicken user but ran into a new problem. I am using Quicken 8.5.1 and a Mac with OS 26.3.1. I decided to restore a file that was one day old so I could recover a report that was inadvertently changed. Without thinking, I made the mistake of trying to update that one day old file and got an error message that this was an old file and could not be updated with Quicken cloud. The error box gave me three choices: take the file off-line, reset data or decide later. To me the obvious choice would have been to simply restore the most recent file and continue on but this choice waa not provided. I wasn't sure what to do so I took the file off-line and that led to all kinds of restoring problems. None of my accounts were any longer connected. I would suggest to Quicken that they offer a fourth option of restoring the most recent file for anybody else who falls into this trap. I'm sure this was my own fault but in all fairness the program didn't give me much guidance what to do in a situation I hadn't encountered before.

I use Quicken Classic Deluxe Version 8.4.2 on macOS 14.7.6 and was modifying last year's Tax Report 2024 first by just editing the date range to "Last Year". In the process, I think I was to add a new transaction and used a shortcut ⌘N and accidentally created a new Quicken file. Later on things got weird as I believe I was shifting between the two variants. Now I see there are the 2 variants, and I want to compare them to see if there is one that is more up to date or what I could grab from one to update the other. I just want to have one file with all the info.

Earnest

I read that it's not so simple to delete them. Help?

I looked at how to prepare my data, and it says to delete the repeating and pending online payments. Does this mean the scheduled Bills should all be deleted? I know the new Quicken does this function differently.

I agree that before converting on the laptop I should re-index on the Mac Mini.

I converted once already and had no problem until connecting for downloading transactions from the financial institutions. It ended up making new accounts for two of them, very confusing. So I'm starting over and want to do it right.

Thank you - I hope to get this going soon!

Polly

Waco TX

Just recently switch to new Mac Mini M4, from old intel Macbook pro.
Macbook died the same day I was setting up new Mac. Unreal timing, but I had recently backed it up. Unfortunately Quicken cannot load most recent backup. The data file doesn't show an "original name" or "date created". It then says no file exists. The backup before this one does work, but its two months old representing a lot of data.

I used time machine to bring over old files, but Quicken will not let me open the old one. It says this file "may be open on a different computer". When clicking "open anyway" or "try again" it doesn't work.

Is there a way to open up my old files from the previous mac?

Hi,

My current Quicken file was lost and my backup solutions have failed me as well. The latest automatic Quicken backup I have is from mid-October. I know that Quicken cloud is not a backup service and is just for syncing data, but is there a way for me to reconstruct the last few weeks of transactions and import them into my Desktop Quicken? I know I can download a CSV but I don't know if it can be imported - It's obviously not in any of the Quicken formats.

Failing that, can I re-import transactions from my bank and other accounts?

When I open the October file, I get an error in the settings saying that it's not the latest version of the file and I can't use it with Cloud. So obviously Quicken has some way to tell that there's a newer version.

I have followed all the instructions provided on the support page. I even went through the process on my Windows file of doing a "Validate" and then doing a "Super-validate" (holding CTRL+Shift when you click Validate), and each have no errors returned under the logs.

I also tried all of the following:

Unhide the accounts I originally had hidden

Tried to use the backup file to import into Quicken for Mac instead of using the original file

Tried to create a new "copy" of the file through the Copy feature in Windows Quicken. Even tried the "Super-copy" version of this (i.e. using CTRL+Shift when click Copy/Backup)

I tried to create a smaller version of my file with just 2025 data in it.

I tried creating a QFX export, and I received the same error as above, just having the QFX replaced as the file name

I tried the import process by double clicking the windows quicken file on the Mac;

I also tried the other way of doing the import process by opening Quicken on the Mac then choosing File—>New—>From Windows file

Nothing I tried would allow me to convert my Windows Quicken File to Mac. A couple of additional interesting facts:

My brother, who has the same version of Windows Quicken as me on his own computer, is having the same problem when he tries to convert his file to Quicken Mac. He has his own MacBook Air M4. He gets the same errors.

We have tried moving the file from the Windows computer to the Mac via USB Drive, iCloud, and OneDrive; all produce the same size file on the Mac, and the same issue.

As far as we can tell, the Quicken Windows file is not corrupt. It opens fine in Quicken on multiple PC. I can even open his file, and he can open my file. We could open the file on a backup PC that I have at my home.

I reached out to support, but they indicated they had not seen this error before. They are going to get back with my mid-week, but I figured I would start here in the community to see if anyone else has had this issue before.

A couple last pieces of information that I am not sure if it matters or not, but trying to give all the details:

Both my brother and I enter all of our transactions manually. We do not allow the transactions to download from the bank.

We typically do not mark the transactions as "cleared" or reconciled. But we DID go back and do this across all accounts, but still got the same errors as above.

I have the balance (not specific transactions) of my 401k account with Fidelity download to my file, but he does not have anything download to his file

I use the Cloud/Mobile App to view my file data, which works perfectly with no errors on that side with the uploads that come from this Windows Quicken Data file. (I did delete my cloud file prior to trying the migration to Mac)

Neither of us use a VPN for internet connection.

Anyone seen anything like this? Any thoughts? I really would prefer to run Quicken Natively on Mac and not have to deal with Parallels or any other emulator tool just for this one app. Thanks!

I'm using Quicken Classic 8.3 (build 803.58807.100) on MacOS 15.6.1. I just started using Quicken's free basic Dropbox. It set up a Dropbox location linked to the "Cloud" and it contains (unsure why) a bunch of old BACKUP (Automatic) and (Pre-Update) backup files (three accounts). Maybe they showed up in a previous Quicken update that added Dropbox

My Mac File Manager also has a local "Dropbox" folder with a Quicken Backup Files folder, and an Automatic Backups subfolder which contains BACKUP(Automatic) and BACKUP(Pre-update) files for three accounts I track: Personal finance (current) and two other accounts I don't use anymore. For some reason, under the lead Folder "Quicken Backup Files", there are older backup files for all three accounts (they don't have the BACKUP (xxxxx)) nomenclature and are old enough that I don't need them.

I want to clean this up. Can I backup directly to the Dropbox Cloud the app has set up? Do I need the local "Dropbox" if I use the Cloud? I keep 5 automatic backups per Q Settings. Do I need to keep years worth of Pre-Update versions, or can I manually limit to, say, the last year or so? Can I move the two accounts which are inter-mixed with my current personal to a separate subfolder, or does each update cause all three accounts to get a backup?

I also use Time Machine for backups.

I did report errors. Pressed continue and this same message returned. To get out of this loop, I chose Report Errors and exited.

I quit Quicken and rebooted by Mac (which is up to date with 15.6.1) and verified I could log into the Elan website and see the account — no problems. Returned to Quicken and the problem remained.

Next, I tried copy & paste of login & Password versus typing the data. I tried letting 1Password paste the data — nothing worked.

At this time I noticed a small blue colored icon/button in the Window that opened when I performed the "Continue" option in the error message above. That window changed two upper-case letters in the Login to lower case. (all characters in login were now lowercase) That solved the problem and the connection was created.

The login we have used since the Elan account was created indeed had two upper-case letters, and the upper-case characters did not create any problem when I log into the Elan site through my browser.

I just converted my QWin data file to QMac. Everything other than the investment accounts transferred over correctly.

With investment accounts, in a significant number of investment accounts with $0 cash balances in QWin, after conversion they report as having a positive or negative cash balance in QMac. The share balances are correct in QMac (they should be 0 and are).

Digging deeper, I can see that what is happening is that some (but not all) SoldX and BuyX transactions in QWin were converted to Sold and Buy transactions in QMac (expected behavior) but no cash transfer was recorded in QMac.

I have way too many SoldX and BuyX to manually search for & deal with the ones that didn't correctly come over with the appropriate cash transfers being generated.

Interestingly, all currently active investment accounts with holdings came over just fine and the SoldX and BuyX transactions were converted correctly.

These old, no longer used investment accounts were hidden in QWin (both for transaction entry and in the account list), so I decided to try to unhide the accounts in QWin and try the conversion again, but the results were identical. The incorrect cash balances in the second conversion match exactly the incorrect cash balances in the first conversion.

All of these currently unused investment accounts are at least a decade old, some of them over 20 years old, and I really don't care if everything is correct with them, and whether reports would be exactly correct.

I was thinking of handling the issue by going into the old investment accounts with incorrect cash balances in QMac and just do a reconcile and set the cash balances to $0.

What I'd like to know from those more experience than I am is where there will be unintended consequences for taking this action. How will this affect reports or anything else?

I have been using and building our personal expense data on Quicken Web for several months. I needed more functionality, so I downloaded the Quicken Mac app. When I log into Quicken Mac, I do not see my data that I can see on the web app. I have turned on and off the sync function several times. I don't want to start over from scratch. I just would like the months of Quicken Web data to be available in the full Quicken Mac app. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Converting Windows File

I'm a bit hesitant regarding the process. I have recently changed from Windows to Mac. I have a need to view, search etc. from a backup that I had in a separate folder which contained previous years Windows data/information. What I want to do is convert the older Windows file and not populate that information into my present data that I use on a daily basis.

The older file has data going back to 2012. If possible, I would want to create a separate Mac file that I can refer back to so as to view/search etc. and would have no intention of adjusting the older file. I created while in Windows a separate folder named "Quicken_Older_ Backups", which the Mac version "sees" under the function of File_Open, however it show the type of file as "Document" without any Quicken extension.

I'm a bit apprehensive, as when I attempted to convert, it renamed the existing file as "…-2" and seemed to have duplicated a number of accounts etc. Fortunately I was able to restore my original file and all of my accounts and balances were OK.

Therefore I'm a little stumped on what to do. I would also be open to have the older transactions be available in my recent day to day file for access without messing up my day to day file. Any help or ideas would be appreciated🙄

[Edited - Readability]

Hi! Surprised I did not see this in the forum, but I took a backup of my Quicken For Mac (right before the MacBook died). So I now have a .quickenbackup format file.

I assumed I could just restore that to Quicken for Windows, since I have a working PC. But it did not recognize the format at all.

Is it possible to convert this file to Windows?

thanks!
