To reconcile an investment account has a new problem. When clicking in the check mark in the CLR column, Quicken often processes the click on the underlying register window not on the popup reconciliation window. It's sometimes necessary to move the reconcile window so that the check mark you want to click is over a different part of the underlying main account register. In other words Quicken has a loss of window focus of where the click is supposed to be active.

I've had this over the last month (Quicken windows classic) Anyone else see this?

However, I can't find anywhere that this performance is conveyed…it's not on the INVEST tab and it's definitely not included in any return graphs (even when cash is selected). How do I find performance in this case? It'd be annoying if it didn't when it says plainly that it does…and it also says you can't go back to the "treat it like any other security with dividends and reinvestments" method.

Quicken Classic Deluxe, Vers R66.28 on Windows 11

I’m new to tracking investments (IRAs) in Quicken. Where do I start to track performance over time and see those historical values? There are 4 Traditional IRA accounts at one firm, and 1 ROTH, all with various managed Asset classes.

I rarely Reallocate but in 2 years I’ll begin taking RMDs. I thought about creating a separate Quicken file just for Investments in case I make a mess of it before gaining full understanding.
The Release notes indicate data can be imported from a csv file but I was able to connect directly and download data for one of the IRA accounts. It created 3 Placeholders with dates of 2024, one for each of the Asset classes in that account but I’m not sure what to do with those. The next time I tried another download did not add any new data.

If I import from a csv file, I can create that file as of the end of the previous month, not on any day in the current month but that’s okay.

If I create a separate Quicken File, I read that it could not be combined with my current working file (but it seems it could be imported in the future????).

I did input one Account (a single Stock) as a Simple account but I chose the wrong selection when entering the reinvested Dividends and it now has bad data and I don’t want to make that mistake again.
Should I start over with the Stock account and add back in as a Complete account to learn from? It has less than 2 years of activity and only quarterly reinvested dividends so it wouldn’t take long.
Thanks for any advice.

One of the cooler features of Quicken Premier is the Stock Intersection view. But now VTI, a very commonly held ETF, is marked as unclassified in Portfolio X-Ray. This means securities in the ETF aren't included in stock intersection, giving an inaccurate representation of what proportion of stocks you hold in your portfolio.

From what I've read, beyond Portfolio X-Ray and a few other bells and whistles, there is little difference between Quicken Premier and Deluxe. So next time I buy a renewal, I may as well switch to Quicken Deluxe if this isn't getting resolved.

So why does it seem to be getting such a low priority?

The stock dividends in each tranch are a percentage of the holdings in each tranch, but when I attempt to record them in Quicken, because Schwab transaction do not come over properly, I get wild multipliers in terms of share totals, because the stock dividend percentages are recorded on the total holding in Schwab, not the seperate accounts I have in Quicken. I cannot seem to figure this out. Wondering if deleting all of the transactions in Quicken and manually entering them would not be a solution, although I don't care for that one either.

I have used Quicken for Windows for years and successfully migrated from Microsoft Money years ago. I have several IRA accts created under Money. Each of those IRAs have separate Cash accounts linked to them. I receive dividends routinely on investments within these IRA accounts. Some dividends have misc fees associated with the dividend payment. To accomplish this in the IRA I would enter the dividend amount transaction using the DIVX category, which would deposit that amount into the linked Cash account. Then I would enter another transaction for the misc. fee as a MiscExpX transaction which would deduct the fee as a payment in the cash account. As of last week, this functionality worked in all my IRA accounts that were migrated from MS Money. However, the transaction categories DIVX and MiscExpX are no longer available as are INTX, etc, but BoughtX and SoldX still exist and those transactions are deposited into the checking/cash account that is linked to the IRA. So, some transactions are sent to the separate checking/cash account yet others are not! There is no consistency. How can this be fixed?

I have encountered this problem in the past and some kind of fix was put in place to replace this functionality. But it has disappeared again. Whatever happened to "backwards compatibility"?

This is creating big headaches for me. Help!

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Pat U.

I have thousands of security transactions to import to Quicken. The normal QIF, QFX options are not available. I have the data in a .csv file, but can't determine the proper format for the file in order to import to Quicken. I don't think I am the first with this situation, but I haven't located any other information on how to make this happen. The Quicken Virtual assistant says : "The only CSV format we document for Quicken for Windows is for security prices (symbol, price, and optionally date).

For importing hundreds of buy/sell/dividend transactions via a .CSV, we don’t list the required column layout in our help content - it’s only referenced as an option (“Import account and transaction data using a .CSV file”) with a link to the steps, but the steps don’t include the field-by-field CSV format.

So there isn’t a published “proper format” for security transaction CSVs in the info we have here.

So, I can do it, but we don't know how. Is that correct?

Yes, that’s correct. Quicken for Windows supports importing account and transaction data from a .CSV, but we don’t publish the required column-by-column CSV format for security transactions (buys, sells, dividends) anywhere in our help content.

So you can import a CSV, but there’s no documented “proper format” to follow for those investment transactions.

The only CSV format we do document is for importing security prices (symbol, price, and optionally date).

i understand your answer, but that does not resolve my question.

You’re right to push back. The “proper” CSV format for importing hundreds of investment transactions (buys, sells, dividends) isn’t published anywhere in our Windows help content, so there isn’t a documented field-by-field layout to follow.

The only CSV format we do document is for importing security prices (symbol, price, and optionally date).

So for your use case, the best workaround is to use a different import method that Quicken supports, like a Web Connect (.QFX) file from a brokerage, or a QXF if you’re moving data between Quicken files.

Help?

Quicken needs to learn the sale of a "call contract" is a "short sale" transaction and not an equity sale. This is an incredible nuisance for 2 reasons. First, you need to accept each sale individually as if it were an equity sale with the need of lot identification BUT there aren't any lots. Second, each transaction type needs to be changed from "sold" to "shtsell". This is particularly frustrating because in the download activity each of my covered call sales are matched to a "call" asset. So, I'm touching each of these transactions 3 times. ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS!!!!!

C'Mon Quicken fix these nuisance issues!!!!

My first year RMD.

I tried to follow some other threads and can't seem to get Quicken to work per Jim Harman's instructions. My problem is simple. It's an investment account rollover that I took 5K out of the IRA to my cash account and paid $750 in Federal tax and $250 in state tax - both of which are categories I track and use in Quicken. I could easily transfer the whole 5K from one account to the other, but can't find a way to "split" the transfer so only 4K goes to my cash account and then categorize the taxes in their proper category. The only option I have is accounts and no categories show up.

I click accept all, and a message appears that I must proceed to a wizard dialogue to accept each position one by one. I highlight each single sold transaction, and a button appears to manually accept the transaction. I click that button and the sell transaction is accepted.

Why is this process in Quicken? It's of no use. There is never a question of whether I'd like to accept a transaction. If ML sends it to me, it's correct. I'd like to simply ACCEPT ALL.

Ken

The Vanguard transaction reports show shares sold to four decimals, and those numbers downloaded correctly to Quicken.

However it seems that after recording the sale, Vanguard then rounded the online share balance to three decimals (this time in my favor), as I can see in the Vanguard Holdings screen. So now Quicken is telling me that there is a Securities Comparison Mismatch of 0.0005 and 0.0002 shares. It's offering to create a placeholder transaction for those shares. From the Help, it looks like if I do that, it will ask me about the cost basis.

Am I correct that Vanguard is rounding these share balances to three decimals?

What should I do in Quicken?

I realize these are tiny amounts but it seems I need a procedure to handle Vanguard rounding in Quicken.

Restored old 9/12/2025 file and register agrees with portfolio view ($150.56). Restored old 9/18/2025 file and error appeared. Didn't notice it until I was troubleshooting some downloaded transactions. Problem appears to be related to transactions entered in 2004 when transferring securities from another company to Schwab. Attached problem screen shot (9/18/2025 restore) and OK screen shot (9/12/2025 restore) of these old transactions.
