Batch upload spending transactions from CSV file [Edited]

I used to keep 10+ years of cash flow records in Excel. I finally used ChatGPT to help me make it into a usable database.

I want it to be included in Quicken only for the spending trends information. It should not affect any of my current account balances.

Should I just upload the entire CSV file into an "offline" checking account (or credit?) to achieve that goal? The account will just have that data; nothing will be added going forward.

I lost the green line in my Checking account register separating current from future activity but have it in all others using the same default register type. I have searched everywhere and can't see how to get it back.

Quicken ignores one of two separate, but identical, transactions

When two identical transactions appear in a banking account on the same day (as with the recent $90 Social Security payments for my wife and I), Quicken only accepts one of them. Presumably the software thinks this is a mistake on the bank's end, but it doesn't even notify me of the issue. I have to go in and manually duplicate the downloaded transaction.

Mac Deluxe 9.2.2. This has only come up within the last couple of months, once with Social Security and once with identical refunds from a payee. I don't think we've had identical transactions before this for it to get triggered.

In my register is a transaction that I already manually entered, and in the category is a transfer to another account. The bank sends a transaction, same date and amount, a completely different payee, and no category. My entry and the bank's do not automatically match (they never did). I used to drag/drop to match, but now that just gets rejected with no feedback, so I use the menu and get the unhelpful error that is the title of this post. They still won't match even if I modify the bank's transaction to have the same payee and transfer. This used to work in the past, so I suspect it is an improvement.

Finding the Community for my product and creating a Community post should be simple and easy-to-understand. I use Quicken Classic Business and Personal. I went to Quicken.com, selected "Community" under the PURPLE icon labelled Business and Personal. I tried to find the link to make a post and searched for it for a good while. Today, I called the Support team and found out that I was in the wrong place - that I couldn't make a post there (under the PURPLE icon). The team member said the PURPLE icon is for Simplify, not Quicken Classic Business and Personal. Until he pointed out the color of the icon, it seemed like the right place to go to make a Community post since I use Quicken Classic Business and Personal and the words next to the purple icon say "Business and Personal." May I kindly make a suggestion? Add the word "Simplifi" BEFORE the words "Business and Personal" next to the PURPLE icon to bring more clarity to users looking for support? That would have eliminated my confusion and saved an unnecessary call to Support just to find out how to make a post to the Community :-). Thanks so much!

Assigning a Business in QUICKFILL RULES for Transactions (Quicken Classic Bus. & Personal for Mac)

I would like to request that the Quicken team add the option to specify which business to assign a transaction to in a QUICKFILL RULE. The whole point of a QuickFill Rule is to save the user time and it's not helpful when you have to specify which business you want each transaction assigned to - especially when you only have 1 business! Even if I had 5 businesses, I should be able to make a QUICKFILL RULE that allows me to specify which business to assign the transaction to. Please add this feature ASAP! Thank you.

Assigning money to virtual pots of money

I am using Quicken Classic for Mac. Figures are examples.

Monthly Income = £1000

I want to keep a running total of how much I have in my account, starting figure would be £1000. But I want to assign certain sums of that monthly income to virtual pots of money and keep a running total of how much is in those pots. eg. every month assign to TV Licence virtual pot = £15, Car insurance £50, Car tax £25 etc etc. So the amount left to spend is £1000 - £90 = £910. I want to be able to see the £910 and the total of each virtual pot as the months go on - commulative totals.

I am currently making TV Licence as a bill = -£15, Car Insurance = -£50, Car Tax = -£25. And then creating Income categories of TV Licence = +£15, Car Insurance = +£50, Car Tax = +£25.

Is there a better way of doing this please. Here is an real example of what my accounts look like showing saving up for Amazon Prime and the Bin Cleaner

BACKGROUND (on my transition from QuickBooks to Quicken):

I am transitioning from QuickBooks to Quicken Classic Business & Personal, Mac.

I have what is currently a very small sole proprietorship, and report on a cash basis.

I've decided to keep my business in a file separate from personal.

I looked into/tried exporting QuickBooks chart of accounts, etc., then importing into Quicken, but ran into obstacles, and since my business is so small, I decided to start from scratch in setting up my business in Quicken.

HOW TO ACHIEVE THE EQUIVALENT OF USING AN OWNER DEPOSIT/DRAW BUSINESS ACCOUNT IN QUICKEN?

In QuickBooks, I have an equity account I named: "Owner deposits/draws", and have used that account when I make a deposit from a personal account (checking or cash) to my business checking account, or take a personal draw from my business checking account. (I have two categories in my personal file: "owner deposit to business" (Expense), and: "owner draw from business" (Income).

I searched the Quicken forum and learned (in two closed posts) that there are no overt "equity" accounts;, and a recommendation was to keep the business activity in a separate file (which I am doing) and "using offsetting balance sheet Accounts in the two files to record transfers between your personal file and the business file."

Also: "…since you intend to track the business in a separate file, Q WILL automatically track "Net Worth", which if there's only business activity in the file is also your Equity, even if negative." and: "The "Net Worth" figure shown in Q is actually the counterpart to "Owner's Equity"

==> How do I create an offsetting balance sheet account in my business file?

I've looked in Categories, but don't see a balance sheet account type of category. Would I instead be creating an *account* in the business file: "owner deposits and draws"?, and if so, of what type?

And is it the case that I will have only one balance sheet account in my business file, even though I am making personal deposits to it, and taking withdrawals from it?

Speed up Search All Transactions

I am using QHAB on iMac with Tahoe 26.6.2 on Apple M4 with 32GB od Memory. The SSD is 1 TB with 765GB available.

When I search All Transactions that are visible for all of my accounts, it takes between 30 to 60 seconds to find a transaction. The QHAB file is large of course (2,6 GB) but almost all of the GB's are taken up by attachments which are held in a separate file folder on OSX.

This is a long time to search and slows down my workflow.

I tried to access some recommendations posted related to Windows but I got blocked: something about vanilla.

So I ask how to speed up the search. It seems I have reasonably fast computer.

Persistent Reconciliation Errors from Random Deleted Transactions

As a Mac Quicken user since 1993, I have entered over 34k transactions for home finances. The product has been pretty dependable for decades … until recently. When mobile Quicken became available, I was excited to try it until I noticed errors with PAST successful reconciliations — random transactions were deleted. With some users reporting similar errors involving the mobile app, I stopped using it.

Since then, I have continually had random transactions from years ago become deleted, messing up many reconciliations and account balances. It is becoming so numerous and frequent that I am actually considering abandoning my 33 years of Quicken data for a new product. It's a shame that such a good app is now so bug-ridden.

It would be hard to believe that I am alone with this issue. Anyone out there with this issue?

Mac .... editing scheduled transactions

The help information only says you cannot edit amounts on scheduled transactions. Why, or is there a way? I use the checking account manually; I do not download from the bank. For power and water bills, the amounts change every month, but the dates don't. How to do this?

Can not get CarMax Auto Finance to connect

I have tried to connect to CarMax Auto Finance, and it will not connect. It appears in their system. I log in, and it asks for the authentication code from my phone, but it always gives an error message after I submit the code. I can log into my CarMax Account just fine outside of Quicken. Here is the sequence in photos:

When I paid my American Express bill from my bank, the Category column has a red arrow, and clicking that arrow pops up this statement, "This transaction … invalid transfers." The "edit transaction" button does nothing, because the red arrow persists. Now I see that a bunch of previous American Express lines in the bank account also have a similar red arrow, but it's crossed out. I cannot understand any of this. I don't see these red arrows anywhere else. I'm using Mac version 9.2.1. I've used Quicken for decades.

My experience, if anything, the issue is worse than before. @Quicken Anja @Quicken Kristina, is it believed the issue should have been fixed by release Version 9.2.1 (Build 902.61841.100)? One thing I just don't understand is why the logic to do this correctly, which I understand is the case for Quicken Classic Windows, is not 100% identical, even the code, in the Mac version?

Fidelity sends the money market security in the API (previously through OFX) as both a security holding and in the cash balance for the core money market.<\/p>

Bulk Edit of Splits? (Q Mac)

I have a lot of transactions with splits. I have a category that is used in over 100 register entries as one of the splits. I want to change all of them but it seems I have to go one by one.

Is there a solution that would allow me to identify all of them and change them all at once?

(I know if I go to the pull down "Window/Categories" I can see a list of the categories and the number of times each category is used. If I click on the number, I see all the instances. But I can't select them all…if I click on one of the them, it doesn't just highlight it, it takes me to the individual transaction. So there doesn't seem to be a way to select them all from there)

Underscore Categories Don't Show Up in Category Boxes

I can see clearly in my list of Categories, there's a bunch of them with "_" as the first character, e.g. "_401Contrib". There's some odd behavior I've noticed:

If I try to do a bulk edit, and go to the Category box, and type "_" it immediately comes back with "Category not found"
If I put in a manual transaction, same thing - I can't enter that Category
I have a bunch of entries using some of those categories…but if I go to those transactions and those splits and I try to edit them, I still do not see any of the "_" categories…even if there's already an entry there with that category. So for instance, if I go to a transaction in my checking account where I made an entry and it shows "_401Contrib", if I start typing in that same dialog box "_" it won't recognize it as an existing category

Could this have something to do with the fact that I converted my Quicken from PC to MAC?

Auto Loan and Bank registers not in sync (Q Mac)

I have an Auto loan setup and it's showing me the next scheduled payment which is more than 14 days away (I don't see how to change this). The bank register that the payment is being made from does not yet show the transaction because it's more than 14 days and I have set the register to 'Show Reminders for the next 14 days' which I don't want to change.

So how can I change the Loan register to only show reminders for the next 14 days too?

How to Show 401K Employer Match

I have been using Quicken for a very long time but am still struggling with certain things. One of them is what to do about 401K Employer Match money that shows up into my 401K account the same time as I get a paycheck. The way I've been doing it is to:

create a credit in my checking account for my salary
create splits for all the different categories of income and deductions (e.g. gross salary is one split with a positive number and deductions for taxes, healthcare, insurance etc are splits with negative numbers
create a split for "401K Employer Match" with a positive amount
create a split for a transfer to my 401K account with a negative amount

One reason I ended up doing it that way (if I recall correctly) was that when I linked my 401K account to Quicken it wouldn't let me manipulate the transactions. I ended up delinking that account now, so I don't think it's a factor anymore.

What's the "best practice" here?

When I type a payee on my Quicken Classic for Mac OS, I cannot add characters, commas etc

Why does one of my credit card accounts show the balance in Italics?

All my other accounts have normal balance numbers showing. I noticed this same account does not show the proper amount when I use Quicken on my iPad. This is the only problem that I am experiencing everything works as it should.

Hexadecimal FITID on duplicated downloaded transactions

My local bank relies on the vendor "Jack Henry" to generate OFX data for download to Quicken Classic for Mac. Since September 2024, every download from every account at that bank produces duplicate transactions. One has a decimal FITID that shows various fields of data; the other is a 40 character hexadecimal that looks like an SHA-1 dashcode. I have examined the OFX log file to prove that one and only one transaction is being fed to Quicken (it is the decimal version). It seems that Quicken is ALWAYS generating the SHA-1 type hashcode FITID for a duplicated entry. This has been going on without any interruptions or changes since 9/24.

My bank and Jack Henry have each investigated this and have verified that they are doing their parts right (and the OFX log proves it). Jack Henry did use SHA-1 codes in the past and the OFX log identifies the source of the data as Jack Henry, so there may be some old code lying around somewhere deep inside Quicken that is solving a problem that went away two years ago.

If you have hex FITID codes, can you look at your OFX log file and scan the first few lines to see whether Jack Henry is listed as the source?

Printing Future Dated Checks (Q Mac)

For decades I have printed Quicken checks with future dates. Tonight I can't. We are going to be away for a while and I want to print checks with dates 10 or 20 days in the future. The checks are in the register, but when I go to the printing menu none of those checks are present.
