i want a report of my investments by security category, e.g., large cap value, inflation-protected bond, etc. This is not the same as asset class, which is quite limited in quicken.  Q2016 Rental Property Mgr, Windows 10

No, that report is grouped by Q's limited set of asset classes, not the security category.

There are many columns of investment data that can be added to Portfolio views.

Portfolio views can be "printed" to a tab delimited text file which can be opened in Excel.

You should be able to get a wide variety of investment "category" reports using Portfolio views "printed" to tab delimited text files.
