unable to export memo field from report with Quicken Mac

ingerdave1 .ingerdave1 . Member ✭✭
I have a report with columns: date, account, category, memo and amount.  When I export it as a CSV file, the memo field will not export.  This is crucial for me because I use that memo field to additionally identify the transactions and would like it in Excel to be able to sort, filter, etc.   I don't see a way of customizing the export of the report, but it would be nice if the exported data in the CSV file has what's reflected on the Quicken report.  Why is the memo field omitted from the export??

For someone to be able to give
you a correct answer, we need to know what version and release of Quicken you
    are using.

What version of Windows or Mac OS are you using?

Click Help / About Quicken (Mac: Quicken / About Quicken) to determine
    year/version and release.

John - I see the OP's reported issue when exporting a report; e.g., Category Summary Report. The Memo/Notes field is not included.

Suggestion to the OP - can you isolate/display the same data in a register - using the filtering options? Might take more than one setting and export step.
Export the register results to CSV. You would have to redo the sorting and subtotals in Excel.

John - in your CSV export, what version/OS of quicken are you running?

Both JM and myself are using Mac versions. Quicken Essentials, 2015, and 2016 all export the register to CSV. File:Export:Register Transactions to CSV

Whatever transactions/columns you have displayed get exported. As JM noted, you can use filters and searching to limit when gets exported if desired.

Alternatively, you can print the register as a report. The best way is to try it: be in a register and choose Print and examine your various options. I would print the report to Preview (from the PDF menu) so you can see your results. Again, this is useful when used in conjunction to filtering or searching. Try it out.

I am also having this issue of memos not exporting to CSV, with the added issue that the account is also not exporting. For me, the account is critical (more so than memo). I'm using Quicken 2016 Version 3.5.3 (Build 35.13287.100) running MacOS Sierra (10.12.1).

The option of using the register to export the account is highly undesirable. I have several accounts that I've closed and it is tedious having to activate them and then close them to view the information in the cash & credit accounts.

Like others have said, I believe this to be a bug not a feature request. I'd be willing to update to Quicken 2017 if anyone knows if this issue has been resolved.

I am using QM2017 4.3.1   The memo portion of the report is still does NOT appear when exporting to CSV.  This feature is critical for me as I must export and manipulate the info into court accepted form for conservatorship/guardianship accountings.  The memo field allows me to save/share transaction specific info that increases the likelihood that the court accounting will be accepted by the court investigator.  This is very likely a deal-breaker that will cause me to leave Quicken.  Please bring back the reporting/exporting flexibility from QM2007.

Also,  I did try the register export workaround suggested above.  While that helped for exporting the memo fields, this method does not show the details of split transactions.  With QM2007 the reporting customization feature allowed the user to choose showing split transactions as a whole OR with the split details showing separately as filtered by the categories.  This was a very helpful feature!

Sorry, I was wrong. Exporting a selected date range of transactions from the registers DID show the split transaction details AND the memo.  This can be a successful work around.  I just had do each account separately and cut and past into the same spreadsheet before sorting within the spreadsheet.

Yes, the upgrade isn't cheap but would be worth it to solve the lack of memo printing. Anyone know?

I have the 2017 version and still cannot get the memo column to export. It's definitely a bug.

I've also upgraded and can confirm that the memo column still does not export.

I've resorted to adding accounts that were closed back to the account view list and exporting from the transaction list view, which does pick up the memo field. Definitely not desirable, but it works.

When I export my accounts to CSV, the Memo/Notes field data is retained.

I have Mac OS 10 with Quicken 2017 v4.5.4 and when I bring up a Category Summary Report, check the box to show memo/notes, and then try to export it to a CSV, the exported file does not include the Memo/Notes column. This has been the case in earlier versions of Q'17 after they first added the Export to CSV option for reports.

Just "upgraded" to Quicken 2017 Mac v 4.5.4 and problem still there.  At least I can return this one for refund (unlike my copy of 2016).  BTW - Quicken Mac 2007 still works with OS-X 10.11.6.  I hope it continues to do so...

I just tried it with Quicken 2017 (for Mac) version 4.5.8 and using the menu selection for File->Export->Register Selections to CSV seems to work perfectly. All of the visible fields in the register view get exported as CSV columns (incl. Memo) and the separate split detail is handled as one would expect. There is no need to select a date range to get this. There is no need for cut and paste on the different accounts either, assuming that prior to doing the export you select BANKING to see all of your banking accounts, or INVESTING to see all of your investing accounts, or ALL TRANSACTIONS to see everything, depending on what you want. You can then sort the spreadsheet by ACCOUNT so that you can easily delete the rows for accounts you didn't really want and then sort things, delete columns, and massage the spreadsheet as desired for the report you want. I'm sure you already do most of this.

Just played with this, exported register memo field was included in export. Using QM17 4.5.8

FYI - Exporting a report is still not working in Quicken 2017 Mac v 4.5.8. Not only does the Memo field not get exported but neither does the account field (either this is new or I'm just now noticing it).

So if I export a Category Summary report for All Accounts for a given year with Details for all categories and Show Memo/Notes selected, I cannot see which of my exported Dividend Income transactions are from which investment accounts (some taxable and some not). So the solution is [still] to export the BANKING or ALL TRANSACTIONS register view to a CSV file via the menu option in order to get everything I need for a report.

That is correct, and it was true for earlier versions of QM17 as well. However, what is at issue (i.e., the bug) happens with exporting a report (as opposed to a register). To see this open a Category Summary report, click the Show Memo box, then click the Export button in the upper right. The memo column is not exported nor is the account column, even though they are displayed on screen.

Exporting the register isn't a good workaround for me.  While Jim is right that it's fairly easy to delete rows you don't want, I had to do so much clean up that it was very time consuming.   Please, Quicken...  Please fix the reporting capabilities we had a decade ago, in 2007 for Mac!
