Implemented 5.17 NEW - Hidden accounts will now appear in their own group on the sidebar so they are easily accessible. This makes it easier to use All Transactions to search across every account, even ones that are hidden or have been closed https://www.quicken.com/support/subscription-release-quicken-mac-release-notes

I also highly recommend that you browse through the IDEAS section of this forum and VOTE for the request of each of the missing features to be added back into Quicken for Mac....to help direct the priorities of the developers.

To do that, I suggest you read this FAQ on how to filter the IDEAS to just show the ones for the Mac version, then VOTE to your heart's content:
    https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/quicken-getsat-faq-how-to-filter-conversations-d...

The following are some of the many feature requests you will find: and many others.

Be sure to scroll down the page, as some contain lists of related features. Click on the link to EACH IDEA separately that you are interested in, then click the VOTE button at the top of EACH page that opens up respectively to increase the count and therefore its visibility to the developers.

If you do not click VOTE at the top of the page of each feature, your vote will NOT be counted for THAT specific feature!

I agree.  I was just searching for something tonight, but couldn't find it because it was listed in an account I had hidden just because it's not active currently. However, that doesn't mean there isn't valuable information in those hidden accounts.  Please fix this.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Add Transactions search filter option to include/exclude "hidden" transactions.

Currently, the only way to search for transactions that are hidden (i.e. contained within the register for a hidden account), is to either "unhide" all the accounts or create a custom report that includes hidden accounts/transactions.  In both cases it is cumbersome, particularly temporarily unhiding accounts, especially in a legacy data file that could have dozens of hidden/inactive accounts (as is the my case).  In fact, currently the Transactions view is the only means available to select transactions for bulk changes such as re-categorization or tagging.  When re-categorizing, you must be able to re-categorize the hidden transactions in order to delete the original category and the current UI does not directly support that use case.

The idea is to provide a new Transaction search filter option as a convenience to include hidden transactions. Here is a simple mock-up to convey the idea.

@brucel, the check box is a very nice clean way to handle this. I think I was envisioning a separate search window or an option in the current search field... but this is much better. Plus it just makes sense since the window is called "All Transactions". I could see someone simply wanting to see all accounts in one window, even hidden ones. The check box solves both problems.

Hide / unhide works reasonably well for one account.  For 50 accounts, I'd have to manually individually select and unhide 50 accounts, remember them, then manually individually reselect them and re-hide them.  A bit laborious.  A transaction search option to include hidden accounts in search and show would be so much simpler.

I still think this is a better way to do this: https://getsatisfaction.com/quickenco...

This IDEA request is about the 'what'... that is the ability to include hidden accounts so that results can still show up. Your request is about the 'how'...

In QM2007, a hidden account does not show up in the Accounts list (similar to the Sidebar), nor does it show up in the Main Menu of accounts BUT are always available to be included in reports, searches, etc. I find this implementation works perfectly fine for most (if not all) scenarios.

Of course, there are use cases to exclude them in multiple scenarios. And I think at the end of the day, we are simply looking for an easy way to control this without interfering with common tasks like searches, reports, etc.

So hoping that whatever the implementation, it uses as few clicks/steps as possible for each scenario.

Over the years credit cards, bank accounts, etc. come and go but the need to search for specific expenses (e.g. Kitchen Repair) frequently surface.  It would be nice to be able to search across all Accounts, both those displayed and not-displayed in the sidebar Account List.

If you want to see this functionality, please take a second to Vote for it. In the blue box under the first post at the top of this page, click the little triangle under the vote total and wait a second or two until you see your vote registered. (It's not the best user interface, but it's all we've got!) (Also, know that in the transition from the previous Quicken Community forum to this one in February 2019, the old vote totals did not make the transition, but they are preserved at Quicken HQ. So don't be dissuaded from voting on an idea that has 1 or 2 votes; there were many more that came before which just aren't visible here at this time.)

Back in 2000 we remodeled our kitchen.  Since then the credit card(s) and/or bank account(s) we used to pay the bills are no longer being used by us (they are hidden accounts in Quicken for Mac), but the need to be able to research this expenditure still exists.  It would be nice if one could 'highlight' the "All Transactions" found at the top of the Accounts sidebar and search ALL accounts (hidden & displayed) for such expenditures using key words (in this case kitchen).  Searching "All Transactions" currently searches only the non-hidden (i.e actively displayed) accounts.
  • a search in all accounts would be a welcome and huge improvement

Occasionally, I am looking for some historical data that is in an account that I closed and hid from lists in the "Hide and Show Accounts" screen but left 'Reports' unchecked (Quicken Mac) thinking those accounts would be searched. They aren't (unless I am doing something wrong), so I have to unhide accounts so they can be searched from the register search bar.

Would like to suggest adding another column on the "Hide and Show Accounts" screen called 'Include in Searches' next to the List and Report columns or include accounts that have not been hidden from Reports.

    Thanks.

@jppittman2 It's a great idea; I run into this all the time.

Here's the better news: this has already been requested in this Idea thread that dates back nearly three years ago.

Here's the best news: If you look at the blue voting box after the first post in that link, you'll see the status is marked "Planned." This is one of the rare instances on this site in which the developers have definitively indicated that a requested feature is on the drawing board for implementaton. Yay! The only bad news: we have no idea when this feature will be delivered. But at least the developers agree this is a needed feature, and have it planned for some future release.

One addendum that might actually resolve your need right now: this is partly implemented already, for Reports, but not for Search. On a report, if you click Customize, and the bottom of the pane that pops up, there is a checkbox to "Include accounts hidden from reports", which tells the report to include all acocunts, including those marked as hidden. Check your existing reports to see if this is checked or unchecked.

@PowerMove  To vote on any Idea post, go to the top of the thread, and under the first post, there's a large blue box for voting. Under the vote count, click on the little gray triangle to cast your vote.

That said, this idea has been marked as "Planned" by the developers, so voting is not necessary. (But it was marked planned more than a year ago, so you can see that being "Planned" does not confer short-term victory.)

@jacobs Thanks for your reply. I see the triangle on other threads, but not this one. I even tried two browsers (Safari and Chrome) to no avail. Perhaps it has something to do with this idea being "Planned", but it sounds like others may still be have the ability to vote.

I'm happy to include a screenshot to illustrate if that functionality exists in these forums.
