Quicken 2017-Lifetime Planner Fields not long enough to display

Quicken 2017, Windows 10

The following fields are not long enough to display the full amounts for the following:

-----------------------------------------

About You- Spouse is almost entirely cut off

Salary Information-Cuts off at Pay SS

Retirement Benefits-Cuts off at $2 under Workers Benefits

Tax Rate-the word "percent" is cut off

Inflation-the word "percent" is cut off

Rate of Return-"After Reti" (After Retirement) is cut off

Current Home and Assets-The third column only shows dollar signs, the rest is cut off

-----------------------------------------

Also, the same can be said for the budget information. The Budget in Annual View can only display amounts in the $1000 dollar range. Need it to show in the 10,000 plus range in the monthly columns. It will display this amount in the annual column.

------------------------------------------

Also in the Investing Tab, under Portfolio, the columns are too narrow in some views, and cannot be adjusted as they were in previous versions of Quicken. Please bring this back, or allow it to auto scale to fill the space on the right side of the window.

Do you have View > Use Large Fonts enabled? On my QW2017 with Large Fonts disabled, there is plenty of room (in fact quite a bit of white space) in the Planning Assumptions dialog.

In the Portfolio views, I can adjust the column widths. What has changed is that the mouse pointer is a pointing hand where it used to be a two-sided arrow. The developers are trying to convey that the column header will cause a re-sort if clicked on. In some places, the pointer becomes a "NO" symbol indicating that column cannot be clicked to sort.

Yes, I have Large Fonts enabled as my screen uses a 1080 resolution, and if I didn't the font would be too small for me to read. Hopefully the Developers will get it to scale based on resolution and allow Large fonts to work.

Thanks for the "pointer"  (lol) on the mouse "pointer" for the portfolio view. It doesn't change to a double sided arrow, but apparently it will allow me to widen the columns. Hopefully they will get that back to the double arrow again.

Note the 1080 is actually the height resolution not the width, which is what you are talking about.  The width is most likely 1920.

Note on the Planning assumptions for the Lifetime planner.  There is actually a scroll bar, so it is still "functional".  On the other hand a simple fix would be to allow for that window to be resized.

And it is ironic that in the case of the of the annual budget view allowing the user to change the column width instead of trying to do it automatically would not only solve your problem with not having enough space for larger numbers, it would also solve a "windows scaling" problem.  When the person is using windows scaling for 150% or more they only have enough space or double digits.

BTW if you switch to Classical Menus you can change the Lifetime Planner assumptions with:
Planning -> Update Planning Assumptions ->...
These go directly to the dialogs regular dialogs instead of web web page summary links.

You might try tweaking the font size inside the Planning Assumptions window. If you click in the gray pane on the left side, the key combinations CTRL + and CTRL - increase and decrease the font size. I have found in some cases that increasing the font size actually causes more of the text to become visible, counter-intuitively. But really, this is a horrible dialog which needs to be bigger and resizeable.

My monitor is 1920x1080 and the normal font sizes are OK for me - with my computer eyeglasses on. :)

Interesting I didn't know about Ctrl +/- in that window.
    Thanks.

I guess there are some nice side effects of it being an embedded web page.

The Cntl +/- seems to work, but the lifetime planner window itself really needs to be scalable so that you don't have to go through all of this extra effort to shrink and enlarge the contents of the window so that you can read it.  The entire window should be able to be maximized so that you can see everything without having to use scroll bars either.

Apparently, this is all related to the "Large Fonts." being enabled, as I can read everything, with very small font size. if "Large Fonts" are going to be an option for people with larger screens and poor eyesight, then the developers should come up with a way for the screens to scale based on the computer's resolution, and for the Lifetime Planner, the user should have the ability to maximize the window. This should solve most of the problems, even if it were on large fonts.

This is in relation to the "Changing Assumptions" Window.

It sounds like you guys are referring to the old LTP dialogs - a window with a gray panel on the left and headings in the left hand panel with white font on a brown background.

My guess is if they revamp the LTP screens, those old dialogs will be dropped. Any new development would be on the newer dialogs - the dialogs that open from the links in the Plan Assumptions snapshot.

this really is a pain.    without large fonts enabled the text is pretty small,  but when you enable larger fonts,   there are numerous things that don't work properly.

This problem remains in Quicken 2018.  Really, get with it Quicken!  The feature is unusable (or too frustrating to use) as is.

FWIW, napochan, I've included this issue in my LTP list of bug and ideas thread here:  https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/lifetime-planner-bug-and-idea-list-make-yourself...

Frustrating yes, especially when issues like this hang out there for months and years.  Have a look at this overall list, vote it up, if you like it, "me to" it if you have this issue.

The point here is to get some traction on long overdue issues and improvements to LTP.
