Since Quicken 2017 R3 (cdn) version ... the file menu disappears when you cursor down past show this file on my computer using a mouse. I have been able to work around this by enabling accessibility from help menu but that is not permanent. It has to be set so each time.
Is there a registry entry to modify that would set this permanently?
Better still can the file menu be fixed so you don't have play hind and seek every time you use it?

Quicken Canada users: Do not download the first set of patch or Mondo Patch
files in the above links. They apply to Quicken US users only. Instead, scroll
down the webpage to the Quicken Canada section and download that file. For 2015
and 2016 it may be hiding behind a clickable word "here".
( * minimum required
release number, may be higher, subject to change without notice)
Please do this even
if you are on the latest release already:
Locate the Mondo Patch file (US)
or Canada Mondo patch file applicable to your version of Quicken in the links
above.
Download it and save it to disk.
Temporarily disable your Antivirus software for the entire duration of the next
step:
- Right-click the downloaded patch file. Click "Run as Administrator"
to execute the installation program.
2) After successful update reboot Windows.
Start Quicken.
This menu problem appears to be a
problem with only some systems on some Windows versions.
Until someone figures out a permanent solution ...
click Help / Enable Accessibility and the Menu Bar access problem will go away for the
duration of this session.
Keyboard shortcut
for the above: press Alt-H, then press A
P.S.: To make it
easier to recognize available keyboard shortcuts in menus, set a Windows option
to underline shortcut and access keys: In Windows Control Panel / Ease of
Access Center select "Make the keyboard easier to use", put a
checkmark in "Underline shortcut and access keys". Click Apply, then
OK.
This is the known bug where the File menus don't stay up while using the mouse or the keyboard.
Here is a thread on it:
https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/drop-down-menus-2xv9jbch225su
The reason turning on Accessibility mode works is because in fact the Menus you see are "fake" as in not normal system menus. And they have bugs in them.
One is the "click thru" problem, the other is this one where they "drop" when they shouldn't.
When you turn on Accessibility mode that actually hides these "fake" menus, and uses the real system menus that behave correctly.
Why the Quicken developers felt the need to use these "fake" menus is a mystery.
The file menu's shyness appears to be resolved.
Thank you again.
So some people report having the problem even when they are on the same release.
I'm glad that the update fixed in your case.
Also if I click on Help > Quicken Support nothing happens ... another known issue?

Be sure to get the Canadian patch.

I logged onto my Quicken H&B 2017 a few minutes ago, and the problem was exhibited in all it's glory. After several minutes, I closed the program...and reopened a while later...and the problem is GONE now! You don't even have to enable "Accessibility." All the menus work properly, now. You can scroll down slow, or fast, and they all track down to the bottom menu item. No need for enabling the "Accessibility" option,
(Although if you need that feature, and enable it, I can't for the life of me figure out why you would disable it on every reboot. Once you need those kinds of features, you're probably dealing with a permanent condition life situation! Once selected, leave it toggled as set; let the user click it again to toggle it back off!)
Now, let's see if this "fix" sticks, or not... I'll report if it DOESN'T (assuming the best outcome.)
In general, I wonder which high school class is responsible for recent design changes. It's clear that experienced software designers are not generally consulted by the Quicken "software development team." (I've only been doing this stuff professionally for 55 years, so I'm probably not qualified to judge.)
Things just don't get fixed on their own without some change being made and since you have "been doing this stuff professionally for 55 years", I'm sure that you can explain it to us.

Because you didn't, I don't see how you think they fixed it.The problem was always intermittent. And I really don't think anything has been changed.
For what it is worth I suggested it this way for the accessibility setting (it does need to turn on automatically for the people that need it):

Quicken: Is ANYBODY HOME? Obviously, this bug is affecting lots of people, and we've heard nary a peep from anybody inside the closed castle that is the "new Quicken." We're losing confidence in you, and fast.
My system is at version R15, build 26.1.15.2, and there are no updates available. WHERE IS A FIX???
It seems that when a dropdown menu has a selection with a submenu (arrow on the right), move your cursor below it and POOF, the menu disappears
Last 5-8 years I would buy the "next" to latest release on the theory that the bugs would have been cleared up by then. Now? I'm wondering if there is anything better out there. (I really don't want to learn a new program though I did when switching to quicken back in 99.)
The only thing I did differently is I opened another quicken file. You see each year I do a year end copy. I end up with quicken files for each year and I put them into an archive folder. I needed to reference when I had purchased something for a warranty claim, and went back as far as I had.
After having converted some exiting old files to the Q17 format and finding my purchase, I reopened my current quicken folder for this year when I was done. When exiting I realized it prompted me to backup and the file menu problem is no longer a problem. I've opened and closed and rebooted a few times and it seems to be ok now.
So ... I can only suggest that you close and reopen you quicken file. That seems to have fixed it for me.
