In the true Alternate universe, the Quicken team would implement an RSU accounttype, with buy/vest and sell transaction wizards/support.

Thanks for taking the time to comment and resurfacing my thread request.

My 19 year old son has been working at Starbucks for a few years, and they periodically grant him what they call "Bean Stock".  Essentially it's RSU shares in SBUX as a thank you for working there.  As long as he remains employed at Starbucks, 50% vests on the one year grant anniversary, and the remaining 50% at two years.

Well, his first grant just vested the first 50% and I was trying to show him how to track this in Quicken.  "It'll be easy" I said.  Nope!   After pulling my hair out, I stumbled on this thread.

Add us to the list requesting this feature!

    Planethill,

Thanks for the validation and please remember to vote up the thread by liking it (although honestly I don't really see the correlation to accepted features).

C'mon Quicken team, show us some love here.

    My vote's in.

Is Quicken still actively under development. I've consistently upgraded annually, but have held off since they moved to the new subscription model because I haven't seen any investment on Quicken's part.

Well, the conversion to the new site has certainly scrambled the multi-threaded comments from the previous getsatisfaction system.  But the long overdue feature request and support for full RSU account/transaction handling remains.

For those who have/handle RSUs,  please continue to vote your support.

Some built-in RSU functionality would be very good, and I have voted support.

For me, it has not been too difficult, in terms of workarounds in a separate brokerage account.   On the two times a year that I have RSUs vesting I do the following:

    • "Add" shares of the underlying stock for the number and FMV of the vest.
    • "Sell" the number of shares sold to satisfy taxes and, a
    • "Withdraw" funds for the tax sale proceeds sent directly to the IRS
This information is all available on the designated broker's website.  I'm then left with the RSUs I own and can sell, and when I do sell, I "withdraw" funds, this time for the electronic transfer sent to my bank, and the capital gains calculations works normally.

What's missing, of course, is a more streamlined procedure and way to model in the future.  And I am not available to track the W-2 component effectively, as part of the paycheck.

Conversion to the new Community website wiped out all the Vote counts.

If you would like to see this enhancement made in a future version of Quicken please click the "Up" triangle under the voting count in the big blue box at the top of this webpage (or page 1 for long discussions). Wait a moment for the vote count to be registered and updated before you go on.

When are we going to have "real" support for entering & tracking RSU grants, rather than just Employee Stock Option grants?

Just a random link to an explanation of what a RSU is - for those of us in the dark -
    Key points:
    • Restricted stock units (RSUs) are a way your employer can grant you company shares.
    • RSUs are nearly always worth something, even if the stock price drops dramatically.
    • RSUs must vest before you can receive the underlying shares. Job termination usually stops vesting.

So you don't track the value of your unvested RSUs?

Please add this.  I have always just had them off the books until they vest, but would love a way to track them and anticipate vesting dates.

While we are talking about this, can we also add restricted cash grants in here as well? My employer uses a combination of RSU and cash on a vesting schedule as well. I've not tried to mess with it in Quicken, and thinking maybe I might want to make a backup file to play with a little bit. But for me anyhow, like the RSU discussion I think, it works like this:

    2019 - grant of $10,000, vesting $2,500 per year over 4 years
2020 - may get a new grant with new terms, first $2,500 available for cash out, brokerage transfer, etc.
    etc.
    etc.
    etc.
