Thank you @Rocket J Squirrel, The one you referenced is focused on zero account "balances", similar idea but not the same.

@BK, it sounds like you want a variation on this request. You want Quicken to display zero amounts as blanks rather than zeros. The main point of this request is to eliminate rows that are zero.

@Jim_Harman , you are correct.  I submitted this as a separate idea few minutes ago, but it just got incorrectly merged into this one which will get lost in translation unfortunately.  Oh well.

Sorry, I missed the subtle difference. We can ask a moderator to split these apart if you think it's important.

I have been using Quicken for over 20 years. Like others have posted, I have MANY legacy accounts over the years. These accounts are now all marked as hidden, but they show when I run the Account Balances report and Net Worth report. It would be great to have a checkbox to hide/exclude any accounts from the report that have a zero balance for ALL of the columns for the specified date range.

If you mark these accounts as Separate, they will not be selected for reports by default.

Like many others, I have been hoping for this feature for years - hide accounts (rows) on Net Worth & Account Balances reports, if there is a zero displayed for all columns included in the report. I love proposed solution that BK posted back in October 2021.

Like many others who have posted in this thread, I have been using Quicken for a long time (almost 25 years). I have many "old" accounts - bank accounts, CDs, department store credit cards, homes, investment properties, mortgages, vehicles etc - which have come and gone over the past 25 years. I rarely would ever run a Net Worth report that would go back to the 1990s. But it is common for me to run one for the past 5 years or 10 years, and seeing all those old accounts (since designated as Hidden) on the report is frustrating and annoying.

I do not like the solution to export to Excel and manually delete the rows, as you lose the nice formatting. And I do not like manually going through a selected which

I did try a workaround, and I like it the best out of everything that I have tried, so I thought I would share it with the community. I went into the Accounts List screen, and checked the box to Show Hidden Accounts. I then edited each account that was designed as Hidden, and inserted a letter "x" at the front of the Account Name.

    This does two things -

    1) Now when I run the Net Worth & Account Balances reports, all the "x" accounts are listed at the bottom of each section (as the report sorts accounts alphabetically). It is easy to see they are old, and doesn't annoy me nearly as much as when they are intermingled with active accounts.

and 2) if I do occasionally want to customize the report and manually exclude all of these old/hidden accounts(so only relevant active accounts are shown) - it is now super easy to identify them, instead of manually having to look at each account name (which is truncated and makes it even harder to read) and remember which are old and which are current.

I hope this workaround might help others.
  • My Net Worth report includes a zero balance, closed account. It is not in the Account List or the pick list of Accounts in the Net Worth report settings. Is there any way to exclude it? Thanks.

Is the account really not listed when you go to Tools > Account list? Even closed, hidden, and separate accounts should be listed there.

If the account does not appear in the selection list for customizing the report, you have probably marked it as Separate. In that case you should be able to see and de-select it by selecting the Show separate accounts box at the bottom of the selection list.

If this is a saved report, you may have to re-create it from the built-in report at Reports > Net Worth & Balances > Net Worth in order for the account selections to work correctly.

I am also a user for 20+ years and would welcome the not include $0 balance accounts in report. As someone previously stated - this used to be an option on the advanced tab. Not sure why it was removed.

    Hello,

Following up on this thread, we would like to understand which of the below two cases are most common and useful, if implemented:

    1. Option to exclude all hidden accounts
    2. Option to exclude all accounts (hidden or not) with zero balances

    Please let us know.

@Quicken Jayashree Both of the options you list above would be useful, but from reading through all the comments it is apparent that the main intent of this idea is your option 2.

This would add an option to the Account Balances and Net Worth reports. These reports have an Interval option so that they can display the values over time. The option would be a checkbox on the Display or Advanced customization tab to exclude any accounts that have a zero balance in all the columns of the report. Thus an account that has $1,000 in one column and -$1,000 in another would be included in the report even though its ending balance is zero.

I think an account that is active , i.e. has transactions during the reporting period but has a zero balance at the end of each interval should also be excluded, but others my have other ideas on this case. A potentially confusing side effect of this would be that different accounts might be included if you choose Week or Month for the interval.

The checkbox should default to un-checked in the template reports, matching the current behavior. The setting of the checkbox should be saved when you save the report.

Others may think this request should also apply to other reports, including those that have rows for Categories, Payees, or Tags rather than Accounts. Currently in the Spending reports. rows with zeros (no transactions?) are always excluded. In the past people have tequested that there be a way to show zero-amount rows. I think this comes up when they are comparing or merging current with historic data.

As @NotACPA wrote in May, 2019:

SO, this option needs to be formulated so that the $0 accounts are suppressed only if ALL columns in the particular report show $0 for the account.

I would find it most helpful and clear if with whatever interval period is selected, all balances show as $0 for an account, then omit that line from the report. If the interval shortens and the account now would show a value for one time point, then that account line shows.

As @Jim_Harman just stated with my emphasis added:

I think an account that is active , i.e. has transactions during the reporting period but has a zero balance at the end of each interval should also be excluded

This would be my preference and the most logical interpretation.

I support adding this as a new feature and agree with @Jim_Harman as to how to implement it. My preference would be for the option to be located on the accounts tab of the customize dialog.
