How can I transfer the latest version of Quicken for Mac 4.6.8 on my MacBookPro to a new MacBook Pro
About a year ago John in NC answered Charles Yaker’s query “How can I transfer latest version of quicken. For Mac between a MacBook Pro and a Mac mini?”
This is exactly what I’d like to know now as /i’m think about getting a new MacBook Pro and would be grateful for confirmation of what John in NC said still stands good:
“This isn't hard as you only have two things to move: the application and your data file. The easiest way to do this is using a flash drive, or networking if you are comfortable with that.
- You can move the application by either copying the file from the Applications folder to the Mini. Alternatively, you can install Quicken on your Mini in the same manner in which you purchased it (i.e via a downloaded disk image from Intuit/Quicken-log into your account and download it on your Mine. Make sure you have the latest updates.
- As for your data file, the easiest way will likely be (on your MacBook Pro) File:Save a Backup. Save this to your desktop and then move this file to your Mini. Then, restore the file on your Mini after you have installed the program. Double clicking the backup file will begin the restore process (easy). Simply save it to a location on your Mini and you should be in business. “

As Rick notes, my instructions still apply. Simply move the (or reinstall) the Quicken application and the date file and you should be in business.

Just one quick question, what does that data file "look" like e.g. file extension and, where can I find it?

Thanks, that sounds like a very useful tip i.e. use a backup or zip it.
I will remember to do just that when the time comes.

The name of the file is at the top center of the main window in Quicken. To locate it in the Finder, go to menu File > Show "filename" in Finder. A Finder window will pop open with the file selected. It will have the extension ".quicken2017".
My file is called "PS Finances" as i can see it in the main window as you said.
I'm sure I can find it now in Finder - remembering as you said to use a backup of it or zip it, not the current file.
