Investment account cash balance

This used to be a feature when viewing investment accounts in QW2017 - why did this go away?
I need this in QMac since the way reinvested dividends happens is inconsistent with brokerage firms, resulting in cash balance differences.
Having the day change posted in the window for individual accounts is useless to me, would rather see the online cash balance.

    Excuse me, Reed.
You just posted another question for Quicken for Windows. https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/reconcile-investment-account-cash-balance-qw2018...
Here you are posting a question categorized as "Quicken for Mac" ...

What Quicken are you really using?

And can you please keep your questions limited to one post? You are confusing this situation and are not likely to get good, consistent answers with multiple posts.

Reed has been recently been asking about QMac, and that version suddenly lost the ability to see the Online Balance in the transaction view. So, I suspect that is the version he is talking about.

I really don't know if this is by accident, or on purpose. I really want to investigate; Many brokerages are poor in how they present online cash balances, so I don't know if they disabled this to prevent headaches.

In any case, I find it annoying. I liked to see my balance as reported by my brokerage to make sure it matched my balance.

What financial institutions are "poor" at this?

I have had financial institutions at times "lag", but not really be wrong.
For instance in the past Vanguard use to post the new transactions at the end of the day, but didn't post the updated balances until almost midnight (Pacific time).

It would result in Quicken wanting to put in placeholders for the holdings (which I would just ignore), but that hasn't been true in a long time.

And it certainly isn't a reason for getting rid of a vital function of knowing what your online balances are.

Note my experiences are all on Windows, but all investment accounts are downloaded with Direct Connect, so there shouldn't be any difference in the information that Quicken Mac gets.

I am using both versions simultaneously, which has not been easy. Reason, planning for the future....
  • I think I'm having the same problem as Reed. Until today's update, Quicken for Mac always showed the running cash balance for my investment account. (This is different from the portfolio value, BTW. I mean the balance of uninvested cash in my brokerage account.) I don't see any way to get that column back. Any thoughts here?

@Nancy Etchemendy Are you on the Transaction view, not the Portfolio view? And there is no Balance column? Click the Columns icon int eh bottom toolbar, check Balance, and the Balance column will be visible in the register.
