Quicken 2019 web access - privacy, security, & opt-in or opt-out?

drew2udrew2u Member ✭✭
I have Quicken 2018 Deluxe and just saw the announcements for Quicken 2019, with a new feature to "Manage your money anywhere with Quicken on the Web".

I tried and gave up the Quicken Android App a long time ago, so this might be a welcome feature for me.  However, I looked and can't find how Quicken would be securing my data.  Right now everything is on my local PC and I don't sync anything to Quicken's cloud storage.  So I have questions:

Q1: Is this web access feature enabled by default using my Quicken Account ID (that is, is it already opted-in once I upgrade) or do I have to opt-in if I want to use it?

Q2: If I use the web access feature, how is my data secured?

Q3: Does Quicken have access to my data (can they read it)

Q4: Can I set up a a different login username for web access (versus the login I use for my standalone file) so I can keep them separate? Or do I have to use the same user-id for both online and local data access?

I appreciate Quicken being able to respond to these questions.

Thanks.

Drew

The new Web Access method is just an alternative to using the QMobile (iOS/Android) app to access the data synced to the Quicken Cloud Account.

Q1: Nothing changes, with an existing file.  With a new file, Quicken makes you opt-out of QMobile/Web Access, but that is nothing new.

Q2: Same method as is in place with QMobile.

Q3: No more than they did with QMobile.

Q4: Only one Quicken Id is possible per subscription license.

And the problem for some of us is that turning on the 'cloud' corrupts Desktop QW.  So Android app or website doesn't matter; neither are safe for us to use.  I do wonder how many more years it will take before this is fixed, if ever.

    Hi Ron,
We've worked hard to make sure the Quicken Cloud functions well for our users--if you're having issues with syncing, can you post a new question detailing what you're experiencing--odds are we can figure it out and fix it--we want to get this working for you!

Even if you opt out of using cloud services, you still have a shell of a cloud account. I would like to know what data is in that shell.

    Hi mshiggins,
The info in the 'shell' is your unique Quicken Cloud ID, linked to your email address.  This creates a space for you on our cloud services, so that anytime you sync (should you choose to do so) the data you sync is linked to that Cloud ID, and we know it's you.  You can then use your email address (Quicken ID) to access the data you've synced from the web or the mobile app.

I might add to what Katheryn said just to be clear.  The Cloud account/data is created no matter if you sync or not.  It will start "empty", but it will always be there. It isn't only connected to "sync/transaction/budget" data.  It is also connected to the credit score, Zillow, and online bills.

Here is an example of what one would see if they logged into Quicken Web for a data file that hasn't been synced to "Mobile".

BTW this is like the Online Portfolio.  It always exists for every Quicken Id, it is just empty if you don't sync any data to to.
