Sharing Data Between Computers

We have Quicken 2019 Starter installed on my computer and my wife's laptop. The whole reason we upgraded was because We thought we could use the Quicken on the Web to share the data between the two installs. Is this possible? Would rather not go back to using Dropbox as that was buggy.

It just might work until it doesn't and then corrupts the file like a shared Dropbox file will eventually. Explain how you would like it to work. You would need to start with an identical data file on each machine and never sync to the cloud at the same time or access the website app at the same time.


Honestly, it might work but some day you will simultaneously access one of the cloud files and trash the data file.

QWin or QMac?

QWin. I guess when I read about the Cloud/Mobile access and ability to install Quicken on as many desktops as you like I assumed that those desktops could all access the same data. If that's not the case then this is very disappointing, especially since Quicken has moved to a subscription model, which means I'm now paying every year for software that doesn't really do what I want it to...

As it stands, Quicken still only supports one file at a time. There is no way to sync 2 separate files automatically (other than exporting from one and importing to the other OR moving a file back and forth). That said, there are 3 alternatives you can consider:

• If you have mobile devices (iOS or Android) and if all you want to sync is cash, bank, and credit card accounts, consider using Quicken Mobile on a mobile device. You can sync more than one mobile to the same data file located on one of your computers, as long as you use the same Intuit ID associated to the data file. Note that this is limited to sync 24 months plus new transactions.
• use remote access software (several free options, e.g. NoMachine and Teamviewer) to access Quicken on one computer from the other, or even mobile devices (see this great article for complete review of many options (most are free): http://machow2.com/rdp-for-mac/ ****). If both are Macs, the built-in Mac OS X screen-sharing may work for you too. The advantage of these solutions is that you retain access to all the features of Quicken, unlike Quicken Mobile. The trade-off is that the host computer cannot really be used for anything else while using Quicken with these remote solutions. 
• use VPN software, a little more complicated to set up but more versatile. You will need to research options for this.

****Though it is written with Macs in mind, many of the solutions work on Windows too.
