What category do I use to record the renewal of a cemetery plot?

I'm using Quicken Deluxe 2019 (Mac). My father is buried in the Old Country, where you essentially lease the land where someone's remains are buried. I just paid for a 30 year renewal.

I'm open to suggestions on how to categorize this expense.

Technically, it's a subscription -- but one that renews every 30 years -- so that doesn't feel quite right. 

From this thread on buying a burial plot (a related but different type of expense), I like Vetta's idea of "Personal & Family," but I tend to use Gifts for family related expenses. And, I share the same feeling about categories with just one transaction not working for me.

Any other ideas?

    How you categorize costs in your your file is entirely personal  and based entirely what you want to see when you print your financial statements.  Presumably you select and use Categories because you want visibility to those costs, keeping in mind some level of "materiality".  If over the course of a year you typically buy one or two packs of gum, you probably don't have a "Gum" Category, instead maybe lumping those purchases into "Groceries."  And if you incur a cost once every 30 years - a cost you may not incur again in your lifetime - I don't see the need to agonize over what Category to use.  You could use "Miscellaneous Expense" or you could use "Dad's Burial Plot Lease", a (possibly) one-time use Category.

    I agree with Tom.  Considering it is a once every 30 year expense I would just put it to a miscellaneous expense category (you can use a tag if you want to be able to identify it) and move on.

    Like I said above, I don't like one-time use categories. So, I'm thinking of Extraordinary Expenses to catch unusual high-cost expenses -- something that would hold a few, but more than a single item.  

    I'll leave Miscellaneous for low and medium cost transactions.

    That "Uncategorized" was bothering me. :-)

    For the life of me I can't think of any income tax angle to this, which is not the same as saying "there isn't."

    There's no tax angle on the cemetery plot for my 1st wife (although, there's no recurring fees either).

    So, likewise, I can't think of any US tax angle that would apply to this scenario.
