Migrating from French version of Quicken 2000
I have been using Quicken 2000 and previous versions for the last 30 years, purchased in France where I used to live, and I love this application. Unfortunately, Quicken no longer services its European versions so I have resigned to use the Canadian one, where I now live.
I have diligently followed the instructions found on this useful forum on how to convert data from the Quicken 2000 version, via the 2004 format, based mostly from what I can see from UK users in my same situation.
However, after converting my 2004 backup files after uploading the 2004 version of Quicken, I always get the message 'unable to open file'. I therefore cannot proceed to the next step of the conversion process.
I am wondering if there are format differences in the data files between the French (from France, not Quebec) version and the UK one which makes it impossible to follow the steps used by the UK users?
Many thanks in advance for any information you can provide on this.

The alternative is to use MS Money Sunset version as an intermediary.

Many thanks for this response. I tried again, to no avail, using the two previous versions of Q. Files are not converted and not readable.
I do not want to try the MS Money route, and it appears that you still wind-up having to import export individual QIF files, which I can do now.
I do not know if this is allowed on this website, but I would be willing to pay someone more technically savvy to do the conversion of my files suing the two-step approach under Quicken. I do not need accurate balances, but I would like to keep the transactions of my accounts, I spent hundreds of hours on my beautiful French version, now becoming obsolete with Windows 10. There is no confidentiality issues with my boring checking and saving accounts. There are old in any case.
Thanks again, Mark
I would be very cautious about soliciting for someone to do the conversion for you.
We do have one super user here who did Quicken consulting. My understanding is he is mostly retired now and doesn't take on new clients, but he will recommend other consultants he knows.

You will no doubt be glad to know that your suggestion worked very well. I went through Money to convert my old files, and was even able to continue to use the Euro as my base currency in the final Quicken Canada format. I am now going through my 15 accounts (20 years's worth of work), making some corrections, including converting some old French Franc currency accounts into Euros. My Canadian dollar accounts need no modifications. Still need to look at my stock accounts though. Many thanks again for your advice, this is a life saver for me.
Viva Quicken !
