I have been a long time continuous user of Quicken (over 20 years) and have paid for every upgrade every year even before the new subscription model went into effect. Quicken is a great product, and thank you for pushing to make it even better.
One significant issue with Quicken that has existed for many years yet has never been addressed is its Reports > Spending > Itemized Categories report customization UI. After creating any report and going back to the customization UI to make adjustments, the UI is almost entirely unsuable. If there are any multi-nested levels of categories, the UI literally hides all of the category names from sight. The only way to find them is to randomly poke around by hovering over all of the hidden lines and find out what each line is supposed to be saying and actually is. PLEASE have your team address this terrible UI flaw. We run reports frequently, and the Quicken UI is extremely broken from a usability perspective on this feature.
Please see screen snip below, for reference, to see the problem. As you can see in the picture, NONE of the category names are visible. This is showing how categories with 4 nested sub-levels appear in the UI.
Other than that aggravating design flaw, please keep up the good work.
Best Regards, Scott
Thanks for kind words, Scott! This is definitely a visual bug--we're going to work to reproduce this and report it to the dev team to fix--thank you for letting us know!
Hi Eric, Last time I updated, "Quicken found a damaged scheduled reminder and removed it. Please check your scheduled reminders by going to Tools>Manage Bills and Income Reminders." Quicken did not give me any way to find out exactly which scheduled reminder it had deleted. That piece of data was lost forever. Would you at least ensure that during the next upgrade, Quicken will tell me which reminder it has deleted so that I can reenter it after the upgrade, please?
Thanks for the feedback, Isaac! I will submit this suggestion to our product team so they can improve this process--
Just like to chime in here. I used QW for years, and switched to Mac several years ago. I moved to the subscription product when it was introduced, and couldn't be happier. My needs are fairly modest, being retired. I have a checking account and several (probably too many) credit card accounts with many different financial institutions. I download transactions daily, and everything works flawlessly for me. I feel for those having the problems I read on this thread, but be assured that there are some completely satisfied customers out there!
I accept the need for Quicken to generate income through subscriptions rather than selling a once and for-all version. But you must add value at regular increments to continue with that model.
I would like a module that would walk me through setting up reports to aid in collecting data for filling upcoming income tax. Not just checking that an expenditure qualifies for a certain line on a 1040, but (in January) I could check categories, individual transactions and a special designation. I find the current report design tool to be very precise to the extent that blank reports are produced three, four or five times before a useable one is produced.
In investments, a simple way/preprogrammed to handle normal or purchased CDs. That is, something other than an accountant-inspired 'return of capital' at maturity. Work with firms like Merrill Edge so that the interface with Quicken does not generate a number of unuseable entries that have to be deleted. I admit that Merrill's processes were developed when computers were accessed with batches of punch cards, but they are popular firm.
The pay bills via Quicken competes with free services from banks. Banks, on the other hand, are making feeble efforts to offer budgeting and expense tracking services. But only for one account at a time. Tune your offerings to compete better with those efforts. It is frustrating to try to delete an entry and receive a dialogue box that prompts a more complicated way.
Yes, a reworked budgeting tool would relieve me of building one in Excel.
For the 2nd time that I purchase the Quicken upgrade, it does not work well. First upgrade a few years ago would not download, you did refund me as customer service could not get it working. Last year I purchased an upgrade again, I had a problem with bank downloads, one customer service agent helped but I had to call again for more bank download issues. 2nd agent messed everything completely, and I lost the latest data because he thought I should restore some of the backups which then erased the latest data. I no longer use my Quicken, and will never purchase an upgrade again. Roberta

I use Quicken to accumulate my income and expenses, but my primary use is as a 'front end' to my bank's bill paying function. I access the "on-Line" function several times per day. I would be nice to have a direct access to the 'On-Line" function rather than going through "Tools" drop down access. Bill

First, let me say that I am extremely happy with my latest Quicken version update 2018/2019. Many years ago, I also used Quicken in France. No longer available. May I suggest you look into this market, as there is absolutely no substitute for Quicken in France.
Hello Pierre,
Thank you so much for the great feedback! We're so happy to hear you're pleased with our latest release/improvements, and sincerely appreciate the suggestion. At this time, we do not have plans to expand to other countries, but I'll be sure to pass this along to the proper teams to make sure they're aware of the requests.
Thank you again for taking the time to share today! Alex

yup, doesn't adjust my bills based on prior bills. CC don't forecast amounts due even though all transactions are there. You and I have discussed this many times. we keep voting for year+ yet....we wait and wait and wait.

I have a 2007 Mac version of Quicken. I use it solely for record keeping on my computer. I do not do online stuff with Quicken. I would guess I am way over due for an upgrade and would like to know the best way to upgrade and what to do. I have a mac desk top computer. Thank you Blaine Bolton
It took a couple of hours to figure out but I finally was able to import my Quicken 2007 for mac data sucessfully. Thanks all for the help!
I have Home Business and Rental Property 2018 version. I have 8 mutual funds that are 401K tax deffered accounts and no matter how many times I update the call letters for the fund, it will not update daily pricing changes. Despite numerous attempts with the help line, no solutions. Now I have several mutual fund accounts that when I use the transfer of dollars from a brokerage account to purchase additional shares of that mutual fund, when I click to edit the transaction to update the actual purchase price, it shuts the entire program down. I have to restart it, and none of the changes are saved. It says it's sending an error report but nothing is ever done to fix the glitch. I'll never upgrade again. I'm done with this piece of crap software.
I used Quicken for Windows for years and was always happy with the program. However, the last computer I bought was a Mac and Quicken features for Mac and Windows are not the same. One specific feature that I really rely on is Savings Goals. When will you incorporate that feature into Quicken for Mac? While I do use use savings goals for saving for a few “fluff” items like a new chair or sofa, its real workhorse use is for accumulating cash for monthly bills or bills paid annually, such as car insurance or property tax. That way I’m never surprised. I put money away monthly in a savings goal so that when an annual bill comes along the cash is saved and ready to unload. I’ve created an archaic workaround but I have found that reconciling accounts is paramount to a migraine level headache. Please, once again, will you PLEASE include savings goals to Quicken for Mac??? Windows users, I am so totally jealous. This feature is so important to me that I may have to jettison my Mac. Debbie F
Wow, I thought I was just too old and grumpy but reading a random selection of this trunk of replies regarding Quicken 19 has certainly validated my feeling of concern about signing up for the so-called improvements in this new? Version! I have used Quicken since 2004 when I needed a personal financial tool for family financial purposes, just simple book keeping. This new version is beyond over-kill for me and in addition, my present Quicken V. 18 refuses to print my wallet size checks purchased from Intuit. For me, Quicken 19 is out of the picture! I Dislike!!
Been a Quicken user since late 1980's...so I feel I am a good judge of this product. A major feature of Quicken since around 2002 is to be able to use Direct Connect and Transfer/Pay Bills. Quicken has always in my experience...done this well. I have overtime seen Banks taking away DD or not offering it to New customers and for me, that is a concern going forward. Might one or more of my Banks discontinue DirectConnect.
However, for years Quicken personalization features have been absent, or useless. Quicken introduced Classic and Large Font Menu item some years back; for me, its useless. The Classic is too small; Large is the other extreme, too Large. There needs to be a few setting between Classic and Large. This View Setting of course has no impact on Investment Registers which with aging Users (again, been using Q since late 80's) is really getting to be a strain on the eyes. Looking at Users at the Q site where Users can Vote on what they want going forward; enhanced appearance and Personalizations of the software gets a high number of Votes.
For years I have asked, with no explanation, every time I create a New Acct in Q, that acct is automatically ADDED to EVERY Created/Saved Report...WHY????? So when I create a new acct I must go thru all my SAVED accts and delete the New Acct from that Report. WHY???again I ask??????
Long time Loyal customers need to feel appreciated... as other have written, a Special pricing needs to be offered to the long Term Loyal customers....lets so those using/purchasing consecutive/uninterrupted versions of Q in excess of 5 or 7 years. Most younger Banking folks I have spoken with over the years would much rather just use Banking Online sites to do their Banking rather than software...the Banks sites are FREE, Quicken comes with an Expense. So taking care of those that are loyal...should be a priority with Quicken.
Eric it is great that you send out releases, something that was not done prior to your arrival and please keep it up. But, I have not experienced any of the improvements mentioned, my Quicken works the same way it did last year, 5 years ago and so forth. I very much want to see and Use something New, something helpful....working on the Fonts personalization of all Text...Bank Registers, Investment Accts, stop New accts from being added to Saved reports, etc...as I have outlined above, will keep me a customer of Quicken.....need some real help on Appearance......
The share your screen feature.....not a good thing at all. I have no reason not to trust Q employees; its a matter of good Security....never disclose Personal Financial information to others....Golden Rule of Financial Security
Been using Quicken since the early 90s. It's been a wonderful program except for 2 things. First the forced upgrade if you want online services. I get that from a business perspective since you need a recurring revenue stream.
But my biggest annoyance and it's been there for several versions is when you ALT-TAB to another application to copy/paste something, when you return to Quicken it forgets where the cursor was. No other Windows program does this. It's super annoying when manually entering transactions.
You need to fix the disconnect with Wells Fargo web connect, it's been broken for stoooooo long. Whether it's WF or Q, get it done or tell the users it does not work!

Well that was a nice letter, but when can we do estimations longer than 6 months? For yearly cyclical things (including something as simple as electric bills) a six month bill is ridiculous. This feature USED to be available in 2012, but since then it has been neutered. Also, the version that is always online will never be installed on our machines. We prefer our software to be OWNED, not SUBSCRIBED or stored on an insecure server somewhere.
Your program is way to flawed to charge the amount you do. Make it less expensive or the program better to justify your pricing. I am using Quicken for years and with all the flaws it kills productivity. Upsetting to fix constantly all the problems.
I've been using Quicken for years and basically like it. But I have never been able to sync with my bank. And I find the upgrades provides services I don't need. It was so frustrating trying to access support a few years ago that I never tried again. I just use what I can and let the rest go. I wish you provided a very basic, simple option as well as the more complex version you sell now.

My issue is that after reconciling credit card accounts and allowing payment transaction to be posted to my checking account the wrong information is included in the memo area. Specifically the account number in the text is wrong. I have been unable to find a place to fix this. Support basically suggested that I have to rebuild the account. It does not appear in the memorized payee list, as part of the account details or anywhere. When the reconcile process concludes successfully, the only "opportunity" is to manually edit the transaction in each of the checking account and credit card account registers. I can't even delete the memo data to stop the automatic entry. So explain to me why I should upgrade when this problem persists for more going on 10 years.
I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree, as I feel that Quicken has deteriorated over the 20+ years that I've been using it. We use Quicken for all of our personal finances, as well as one of our businesses, while we use QuickBooks for the more complex businesses that we own. I'm sure that you and your team may have corrected many of the bugs and added a few bells and whistles, but the fundamental process of downloading transactions from multiple financial institutions to multiple accounts is still broken. * It cannot recognize Categories and Payees that are unique to individual accounts, so it randomly assigns categories and payees across all of our accounts that require more time to go back and correct than the downloading of transactions saved. * The software has crashed more times in the past few months than it has in the past few years, which is extremely frustrating. * When using the Edit Transactions function for multiple transactions, the Payee and Category no longer work, so I have to change each transaction individually. This is something that I use all the time, so I was shocked when it quit working. * Online or mobile deposits show up as ATM in the Check # column, which is a new issue. * Online deposits from one customer show up as "Transaction Fee" with no Check # and no Category * Another business deposit shows up as "BOA Merchant Service Fee" and "Bank Charge" in Category * Find & Replace does NOT work for Category, Payee or Clear Status * When reconciling, it does not recognize transactions that are clearly in the register, so the workaround is to manually change each transaction that it does not recognize to a reconciled status. * I tried to clean up my Memorized Payee List and was shocked to see that it was EMPTY. Not a single Payee was listed, so I was unable to correct some of the Payee issues that I was having.
These are just a sampling of the daily frustrations that I run into and most are not worth my time to try and call your Help Desk, as it will take an hour or two out of my schedule to hear someone tell me that they can't fix my issue.
Needless to say, I'm looking for something to replace Quicken, as you have allowed it to deteriorate to a point that it is no longer working for us.

Regarding the first point, you have always needed to upgrade QWin to maintain online functionality. The main difference is that in the past you had up to 3.5 years from the date of the original release of the new version. Now the subscription model offers memberships anywhere from 12 months to 27 months.
And if you shop around, you can get good deals where you can buy multiple activation codes that can extend your subscription up to 3.5 years (if you time it right) for a very reasonable price, as long as you use the codes before the new 2 year expiration.
The second part definitely would be frustrating.

I fully agree. Have been a Quicken user since its first days, completely rely upon it, and have roughly 29 years of financial detail wrapped up in Quicken. In general it has been one of the most useful and reliable pieces of software that I have used. It is linked to all of my financial institutions which I download daily. Once in a while there is a "glitch", but usually the issue went back to the individual institution.
A few years ago I began to see stability issues and frequent crashes, and felt that the focus was on adding new features versus guaranteeing reliability. Calling support didn't accomplish much except get me frustrated. I began looking for a reasonable replacement, but didn't really want to make a change to an untested something else.
I stuck with Quicken, and now the 2019 version seems to have corrected everything and brought Quicken back to the expected level of stability and reliability. I don't seem to have the issues that many report, and am able to generate adequate reports that satisfy my needs. Of course, everything in the world could use some improvement, and, of course, everyone wants to see something a little bit different. You cannot satisfy everyone, but I have the sense that the Quicken team is working on reasonable/worthwhile improvements and upgrades.
My main concern is that the primary focus again departs from stability and reliability . My congratulations to the Quicken Team for bringing back the product that I had been accustomed to.... Please keep up the good work....

I have no idea, as I'm not sure what you mean by QWin. I've never been able to sync to the Quicken Cloud because of errors that I cannot fix, so I'm not sure if what you're suggesting might fix that issue or not.
When you are willing to sell me a license to this software I will use it again. I will NEVER buy a "subscription" regardless of what features you add. Bad decision. Quicken is basically unavailable to me now, so I will keep using my 2016 stand-alone license until it is no longer supported, then I will find another solution (unless you figure out you need to continue to sell stand-alone licenses, in which case I will upgrade)
Go back to selling software, not stupid subscriptions to online services!!!

thanks....i know you get my point....2+ years?!!?!?!?
Any plans to open Quicken up to international users again. Don’t need the interface with the financial institutes - just proper multicurrency and availability of online platform and mobile apps in Non-US countries.
Your program is way to flawed to charge the amount you do. Make it less expensive or the program better to justify your pricing. I am using Quicken for years and with all the flaws it kills productivity. Upsetting to fix constantly all the problems.
Been a Quicken user for 15+ years. Finally caved (and 9,000 emails) and upgraded to the new "subscription" model, hoping it would fix some of the BASIC interface and other problems I have been having for more than several years/versions. Not only did I get NO useful NEW features with my subscription, it didn't fix anything that was broke (windows that fully expand for no reason, Quicken constantly losing the "focus" to other open apps/windows, unable to connect to a major financial institution for months and months, hanging up during syncs, etc. etc.), and it introduced new problems/bugs. Heck, when I paid for and downloaded the upgrade (???), it didn't even uninstall the old version and install the "upgrade" correctly; at the direction of Quicken, I had to go through some ridiculous procedure of downloading some sort of "cleaning" app, running that, then unhiding files/folders, rename them, and create new folders. I have NEVER had to do that with ANY paid or free software before. Wow! Once finally up and running, one of the "new" features doesn't even work--every time I would try to sync/update my accounts so I can use Quicken on the web (NEW FEATURE), it wouldchurn and churn forever until I finally kill Quicken with the Task Manager. Solution: I had to disable that new feature, just so I could update my accounts.... So I don't get to use that "new "feature" I guess. The latest new "feature" in my new version of Quicken that I have discovered this past week is that it is "flagging" certain accounts as if they have downloaded transactions--but wait, there's no transactions there to accept, and the flag won't go away....nice. Its also nice when I do accept all the transactions, click Done, and the next time I go back into the register they're still there waiting for me to click Done again........ Maybe if I just VALIDATE the file ONE MORE TIME, or better yet, just start ALL OVER AGAIN with a clean, new, EMPTY file it will allle be fixed... Joke is on me, good job Quicken.

Thanks for taking the time to share today. To clarify, there are multiple ways to send payments from within Quicken. I recommend checking out the steps outlined in this article (under Create an Online Payment): https://www.quicken.com/support/about-online-payees-and-payments-quicken.

Quicken should eliminate the LARGE Ad space when a subscription expires

* Online deposits from one customer show up as "Transaction Fee" with no Check # and no Category
* Another business deposit shows up as "BOA Merchant Service Fee" and "Bank Charge" in Category
* Find & Replace does NOT work for Category, Payee or Clear Status
* When reconciling, it does not recognize transactions that are clearly in the register, so the workaround is to manually change each transaction that it does not recognize to a reconciled status.
Respectfully submitted,
John Motley
And if you shop around, you can get good deals where you can buy multiple activation codes that can extend your subscription up to 3.5 years (if you time it right) for a very reasonable price, as long as you use the codes before the new 2 year expiration.
The second part definitely would be frustrating.

Go back to selling software, not stupid subscriptions to online services!!!
Any plans to open Quicken up to international users again. Don’t need the interface with the financial institutes - just proper multicurrency and availability of online platform and mobile apps in Non-US countries.
Thanks
