Print Portfolio and registers grayed out

Shortly after updating to QWin subscription R18.14 (not sure it is related to the update), File > Print is grayed out for banking and investment accounts and for the Portfolio views. Rebooting the PC does not fix it.

Oddly, Ctrl-P still works for these items and report printing still works OK.

Validate and repair > Reset printer settings fixes this temporarily, but if I go to a Portfolio view and back to a register, it is gray again.

Is this just me, or is it a more general problem?

  • I have the subscription version of Quicken and just did an update today. Details on my version are - Year: 2019, Version:  R18.14, Build:  27.1.18.14

I use the following feature often.  While viewing a portfolio - I select File -> Print Portfolio and then generate a tab delineated file of my portfolio.  The "Print Portfolio" option is now grayed out in the menu and will not let me select it.  Fortunately, in the menu it lists the shortcut Ctrl-P beside the grayed out Print Portfolio and that still works so I was able to generate the file I wanted.  Since today is the first time I've encountered this bug - I assume it was in the "upgrade" I just installed.  I did try to close Quicken and open it back up - but the option is still grayed out.
  • Yep. I have the same problem. Customer Support person confirmed it to me this morning as well. Print via toolbar works for me.

I don't print anymore, but I just looked and both checking and investment accounts appear normal for printing.

I've just checked too (using 18.14) and both investment and banking registers have the File > Print menu item enabled and it works OK for me, looks like a problem with your system or data file Jim. You could try applying the 18.14 mondo patch and see if that helps.

I confirm what Jim is seeing.  Works fine until you go to portfolio view, then portfolio and other accounts are greyed out on the drop down menu.

OK, I see it now.  It's a problem with the Investing Tab.  When you click on that tab the Print item in the file menu is disabled, and it remains disabled if you return to one of the accounts in the account bar.

If you click on one of the other Tabs (e.g. Home, or Planning) the Print item on the menu is re-enabled and works for the accounts again.

I can confirm Bob's findings, but don't know if that is unusual. Was this view always printable?

    @GeoffG
Yes the Portfolio view has always been printable. I have never had a problem with it in the past.

I tried installing the Mondo patch and that did not help.

I think you’ve found a bug Jim, but the workaround is just to click on one of the other tabs after you have been to the Investing tab, that restores the Print menu item for me.

Or as I noted above, you can do a Ctrl-P instead.

  • Same problem here.  Just upgraded to E18.5 Build 27.1.18.5.  Everything was fine before the upgrade.  Can us Crtl-P to to print the portfolio, but the File>"Print Portfolio..." menu item is grayed out.
  • Same problem here.  I recently updated my version.  It is R18.14, build 27.1.18.14

    Hello Everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue to the Community.

I have duplicated this behavior in my data file and Quicken 2019 R18.15 and have opened a ticket with Development to investigate further.

In my testing, if I selected a different tab, such as the Home, Spending or Planning, etc. tabs and then returned to the Banking/Investment account register, the option to Print the current view in the File menu was no longer grayed out and able to be selected again.  Closing/re-opening Quicken will also restore the Print option until the Portfolio is viewed once more.

    Thank you,

    Sarah
  • I'm experiencing the same problem with version R18.15 Build 27.1.18.15. Why hasn't this been corrected?
  • I am using 2019 R18.15, build 27.1.18.15. No matter what I do, when I go to the investing tab the print button is greyout. I can print using Control P. It seems inexcusable to me that you force us to purchase the update annually, and something that has been working properly for years suddenly stops working. How long does it take to fix something like this?

    Yes it was!
  • Why do you want to print from the portfolio view? Answer is simple. Quicken's asset allocation approach is too constraining. I export the portfolio to Excel using the print capability and then determine my current allocation and target allocations.

Curious as to what you see as constraining in quicken’s asset allocation approach.

Sarah - I am using Quicken 2019, Ver. R18.15, Build 27.1.18.15. I discovered this morning that the File>Print button is now grayed out for me as well.  None of your suggested fixes take care of this problem for me.  Like some of the other posters, I do have the File>Print feature available for some tabs but not others:

    Home - yes
    Spending - yes
    Bills and Income - no
    Planning - no
    Investing - no
    Property and Debt - yes
Add-on Services (check printing) - it appears to be available, but I don't use it

Based on the time span of this thread, this has been a problem for some time.  Can we expect Intuit to fix this, or will we receive some level of compensation - say an extension of our subscription - to compensate for this egregious error?

    Hello All,

The R19.36 release of Quicken for Windows subscription (2018/19) contains a fix for the File > Print Portfolio button not functioning as expected.

The R19.36 release is still currently in a "staged" release and has not gone live to all Users yet, if you have not received the 19.34 update and would prefer to not wait for the release to go live for all Users, it may be downloaded and installed from the Mondo Patch available at https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-mondo-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product.

I hope this information is helpful and please let the Community know if we may be of any further assistance.

    Thank you,

    Sarah
