account has a large negative balance

I have used Quicken for years.  My bank account is now showing huge negative balances going back to periods that had been previously reconciled with positive balances

If you haven’t already, you may want to verify the register is sorted appropriately and there aren’t any unexpected filters being applied:  open the register, select the Date column header (you want the small triangle to right of Date to point up) and Reset.

Check to make sure that the Opening Balance transaction (the very oldest transaction) did not get deleted.
Check to confirm that some deposits haven't been deleted.  Did you possibly run a report and delete some transactions from within the report?
You could also revert to a prior backup.

at the top of the register, there are 3 drop down boxes, the middle one is for transaction types.  It probably got changed to Charge, from All types.  Change it back to all types, and you should be good again.
