Account type for variable annuity

I have a variable annuity that is part of my retirement portfolio so I can eek out a little more tax deferred growth. On bringing this account into Quicken for Mac (2019), it has been automatically typed as a Brokerage on the left sidebar. I've yet to find a way to move it under Retirement short of (mis)classifying the account as an IRA or 401k. I was hoping to avoid that because I don't know what ramification that has to other calculations & reports.

Is there any simple way to get this account typed as Retirement? Thanks for any help!

    Hello Cjescheke,

These are all of the types that a brokerage account can be edited to.

However, only the 401K or IRA options will move this account to the retirement section.

Currently, Quicken for Mac doesn't offer any type of investment reports at this time so there wouldn't be any foreseeable impact to any reports or calculations.

    Hope this helps!

I have a deferred variable annuity and track it in QMac as an IRA account.

Have used appropriate categories and tax line assignments for contributions and distributions. I get the correct info for tax reporting in QMacs Tax Schedule Report.

Have seen no adverse results from this practice.
