Resolved: American Express (Credit Card) Returns Error

American Express is currently undergoing website maintenance and all Quicken for Windows and Mac Users will receive an error when attempting to add or update accounts with American Express using the Express Web Connect/Quicken Connect connection methods during this time.

If an error is received, please allow up to 48 hrs and attempt to add/update accounts once more, or switch to the Direct Connect connection method (https://www.quicken.com/support/how-do-i-change-bank-connection-method)

If you would like to be automatically notified once access has been restored, please "bookmark" this Alert by clicking the Yellow Star icon in the upper right corner.

    Update 7/25/19: We are continuing to work with American Express as they continue their site maintenance windows.  

    Some Quicken for Mac users have reported that they're unable to switch to Direct Connect with their American Express Delta SkyMiles Card.  When switching to Direct Connect in this case, please select American Express - Direct Connect as the financial institution, and this will enable you to download transactions for your Delta SkyMiles card through Direct Connect.

    To switch to Direct Connect in Quicken for Windows

    1. Select "American Express" from the Financial Institution List
    2. Click the "Advanced Setup" Link at the bottom
    3. Click the bubble for "I want to select the connection method" and Next
    4. Click the bubble for "Direct Connect"




    To switch to Direct Connect in Quicken for Mac:

    1. Select "American Express" from the Financial Institution List
    2. Click the "Options" button
    3. Click the bubble for "Direct Connect"

    Hello All,

    We have received notification from American Express that website maintenance is almost complete and we anticipate that all maintenance and updates should be completed and connections restored after 6:00 A.M PST, 08/08/19 (tomorrow).

    To restore downloads after the maintenance has been completed, please visit https://www.quicken.com/support/required-update-american-express-accounts-august-2019 for additional information and the steps that are necessary in order to continue downloading American Express transactions in Quicken using the Express Web Connect/Quicken Connect methods.
