My downloads in Quicken Deluxe for Windows (Canada) over the past 2-3 years have been very corrupted, resulting in hours and hours of corrections. Can I start a new version of Quicken without losing access to my old files?
Thank you. No I haven't tried the file repairs. It seems the two most recent versions have difficulty using my categories, payee names and account numbers when downloaded manually (I prefer not to use the Quicken data service). I have had the same file since 2000 and it's only in the past 2-3 years these issues have arisen. Downloaded accounts are given new names (not those I and my bank have used for years). Many "payees" are allocated incorrectly, categories and especially transfers are used incorrectly and some transactions just disappear. Hence I have to download both Quicken files and a CSV files, and crosscheck these against paper statements. The CSV file is always correct. I would like to start over, resetting account types, payees, categories etc etc, but only if I can maintain access to my existing and valuable data.
You should have tried them years ago. It may be too late to resolve your corruption, but you have nothing to lose by trying because, if you follow the instructions, you will be working on a copy of your data file.
Thank you Rocket J, I will have a look at this file as you suggest. Perhaps I was unclear but these issues have only begun in the past 2- 3 years, and only apply to new downloads. The rest of the data, including all my corrections in these past few years, remain correct.
