Why is the Quicken subscription service so expensive - $99.99 per year?

I understand why Quicken changed to a subscription model -(Removed-Disruptive) Why is the annul cost so expensive? How were the subscription rates set?

No one in this thread is stating what "edition" (Deluxe, Premier, ...) they are buying. That would certainly influence the price. Not to mention where you buy it and if there are any sales on. For instance right now for first time subscription buyers the Quicken site has 40% off.

That places a 1 year subscription for Deluxe at $29.99 and Premier at $44.99, and H&B at $59.99.

I also see on Amazon a list for "Quicken 2019 Premier Disk" for $30.95. Don't let the 2019 fool you, it is just the "subscription" they (since 2018) all automatically up to the latest version.

Note if you don't have a DVD drive there is an activation code in the package that you can activate online and then you can go to your account on Quicken.com and download the install from there.

@chaser1323 Depending on what version of Quicken you are using the data might be "upgraded" to a new format, but other than that no change. In fact though the data format hasn't changed since 2016, so you would have to have pretty old version for even the need to update the data format.

And therein lies the problem... because you upgraded at least every 3 years, you either forgot or never realized that online functionality expired after 3 yrs under the old model. The main thing that has changed is that now the time frame has changed to 12 months to 27 months (depending on what offers are being made) and to draw attention to that fact are now calling it a subscription membership. Otherwise, it is not all that different today.

BE AWARE - I think that some of the Quicken.com incentive deals are for NEW users...

Need to create NEW user ID / password.

And... how much is having a software program like Quicken worth to you....
I happen to use it for everything in my investing, banking, CC, etc -
So, for me - I have the Deluxe version - it is well worth the cost to have it.

Lastly - as a service, when you don't want to renew - it somewhat goes away...
If you don't pay your "utility" bill - electric, gas, cable, cell  -
does your service still work for years ?

I bought the CD from Amazon. On the MyAccount section there is no option to enter Activation Code. In the Desktop version, I see it. If I enter it now (Is till have a month left), does it extend after the current expiration date?

Long story short, yes, purchasing a 14 month Quicken Home and Business subscription (activation code) from Amazon for $63.74 successfully extended my activation effective the date my original activation was set to expire. Note that Amazon's price is 1/3 less expensive than quicken.com and provides 15% more time until the next expiration.
