What is Quicken Bill Pay? Will I still have to pay for Direct Connect to banks?

Ok so I'm being forced to upgrade from my totally fine Quicken Property Manager 2017 to a newer version. Don't like having to do this but Intuit needs the cash I suppose. Anyway, with the new "Bill Pay" feature does this mean I don't have to pay my banks the $10 or $15 a month with to use Direct Connect? What does this mean for the free (at least with Chase Bank) "Express Web Connect". I'm racking up large "Direct Connect" bills every month with my many banks so it would be nice if these went away but I can't find good info on this. Help!

You are not being forced to upgrade.  You may continue to use Quicken 2017 without the Online Services and Support: https://www.quicken.com/support/quicken-discontinuation-policy
Don't like having to do this but Intuit needs the cash I suppose.
Intuit sold off the Quicken business almost 4 years ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicken

Quicken Bill Pay is not new: http://quickenbillpay.com
Quicken is offering a new Quicken Bill Management service: https://www.quicken.com/personal-finance/bills
If you continue to use the Direct Connect connection method at financial institutions that charge for the service, then the financial institutions will continue to charge you for the service.
What does this mean for the free (at least with Chase Bank) "Express Web Connect".
It doesn't mean anything.  The Express Web Connect connection method is a connection method like Direct Connect and Web Connecthttps://www.quicken.com/support/how-quicken-connects-your-bank
Note: At Chase Bank, the Direct Connect connection is free for Premier Platinum Checking, Chase Private Client and Private Banking customers.
I'm racking up large "Direct Connect" bills every month with my many banks so it would be nice if these went away but I can't find good info on this. Help!
If you want Direct Connect bills to go away, I suggest you contact the financial institution.  If you're not using the service, you should discontinue the service.  If you are using the service, consider switching to the alternative connection methods or switch to a financial institution that doesn't charge for the service.
  • Thanks for the fast and accurate, but unnecessarily snarky, replies. I'd love to get rid of Direct Connect fees but I guess that would be at the expense of the automatic one-click updates (and instead have to use the Excel download / import). Unfortunately Bank of the West and Wells Fargo only offer Direct Connect for automatic updates and not the two tiered options like Chase or the free Direct Connect like Bank of American and First Republic. And I can't get rid of the WF and BoW unless I pay off the mortgages I have with them so that is something I'd rather not do. Also thanks for the Chase info as I have Premier accounts with them so I could upgrade from Web Express to Direct Connect without an additional charge!

If a financial institution supports Express Web ConnectOne Step Update should work but is less reliable than Direct Connect.  If the financial institution supports Web Connect, we are able to download and import the QFX file.

Bank of the West and Wells Fargo both also support Express Web Connect and Web Connect.
