Option to NOT download bank transactions for Quicken on the Web

One frustration I have with Quicken on the Web is that it will download bank transactions EVERY TIME I log in, which could be a few times a day. This is a terrible waste of time and resources for a "feature" of Quicken. So I want the option for the mobile and web apps to NOT download bank transactions - either by account or at least a global enable/disable switch. My rationale is that I have spent years with Quicken for Windows training it to handle various transactions which the mobile and web apps do not. In fact, I spend more time fixing those transactions when they download than if they would just match up with my scheduled and/or memorized transactions. I do want the ability to use the mobile and web apps to log transactions that are more complex or just to assign the appropriate expense category, and then have those download into my desktop Quicken. But the more Quicken migrates to the web, the less I want to use it because it is making MORE work for me, not less.

That is for the desktop version. And is it unchecked there because I want full control over where and when my transactions go over the internet. Which is why I want a similar switch for mobile and web apps.

In your initial post, you use the word Download several times ... but re-reading that post you seem to be assigning multiple meanings to it.
SO, can you please edit your message (via the Gear icon to the right of the title) to clarify download from what into what.
From the FI into Mobile?  From the FI into the Web?  Downloading from the FI into your desktop? Downloading from the Mobile into the desktop?  etc.

@NotACPA - I tried to update the post for clarity, but the editor won't let me save it. So, let me try to clarify. I have the Quicken Cloud sync turned on for some of my accounts in Quicken for Windows. I have financial institution login credentials saved in the Quicken Vault to download transactions for some accounts. These credentials are synchronized to the cloud. So whenever I login to the cloud with the mobile app or the website app (app.quicken.com), a transaction download from the FI to the cloud is initiated -- but without my consent. What I want is that same setting you noted above for the desktop version to be available for the Cloud-based apps to prevent a FI to cloud transaction download when I log in.

That is the reason I don't use Quicken Mobile/Web. I don't want it downloading my transactions. That is what the desktop application is for. Those of us who use Quicken want the mobile/web apps for remote access to our data only. The download portion only creates more work for me. 3 of my banks only allow one device to download. Quicken web is considered a second device then my bank locks me out requiring a phone call to the bank to reset it. I agree with @augustinejp , Quicken mobile/web only creates more work for me and it totally inconvenient... and that is unfortunate. That sort of auto downloading functionality should be used only on Simplifi...
  • YES!!!

Feature Request: Ability to disable Quicken Web/Mobile from downloading transactions from banks, on an account basis. Reason: Some of my accounts require 2FA via SMS. I only want to update those banks when I'm using my Desktop (Mac) version of Quicken, not when I'm using the Mobile app or my wife is using the Web/Mobile app.

I would vote yes.  It seems like almost all my accounts require 2FA via SMS.
One of the reasons I do not use the Quicken Mobile as much.

Please allow us to turn off bank downloads to Quicken Web App. It causes issues!

Express web connect is not working with TD Bank. It screws thinks up! Web connect works. Please allow us to turn off downloads to Quicken Web App.
  • I would also LOVE to see this feature implemented. I want to be able to open the mobile app or the web app to reference historical data or take a quick look at my budget, etc., but I can't stand how every time I open the mobile app or log into the web app it initiates a "one step update" and sits and spins trying to connect to each of my connected financial institutions. And as the original poster mentioned, it often doesn't handle the newly imported transactions as nicely as the desktop version does and I have to spend time cleaning things up once I get back to the desktop version.

Another issue with not being able to control when the mobile/web apps connect to FIs is that one of my connected accounts (Venmo) requires multi-factor authentication EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. Quicken does an update, which makes it a long process to simply open the mobile app to check my budget (open app, wait as app spins and loads trying to connect to each FI, wait for it to pop up saying it needs more information from Venmo, wait for the text with a 2-factor code to come in, enter the code when prompted in the mobile/web app, then wait for it to connect to and try to import Venmo transactions, and FINALLY then be able to use the mobile or web app for what my initial intent was (often having to work around a mess of newly imported transactions that didn't get properly cleaned up through renaming and quick fill rules like they would have if they had been imported on the desktop, or didn't get properly matched to manually-entered transactions like they would have been if I could've waited to download them using the desktop app vs having the web/mobile app force it on me by simply launching the app or logging into the web app).

Please consider allowing users to disable automatic updates on the mobile and web apps and instead be able to manually trigger them if desired like we can on the desktop apps.
