how do you setup a mortgage that shows payments and splits etc

I have a home account and a mortgage account and a monthly reminder but it does not update the split totals each month. How should I enter a mortgage account properly, start to finish? So that the monthly draft through my checking is deducted from the home/property account and the splits of the PITI all get accounted for.
I have had Quicken for more that 10 years and have never got this right,

Please step by step help!!

Search Quicken Help (F1) for "Mortgage Wizard".
When you set up you loan, using that, it will handle all of the proper amortizations for you when you use the Payment that it creates.

To create a mortgage account, I suggest you select Tools > Add Account..., Loan, manual loan account, ...

To enter a loan payment, I suggest you open the loan account, press Ctrl + Shift + N, select Enter loan payment, ...
