New releases and updates - created on Fridays - Why ?

I can never understand the lack of normal Change Management protocol for releasing a NEW Staged Release on Fridays.  Like with the just released R29.xx
This is not the first time....
Is there an actual reason for this action - to minimize the damage caused over the weekend ? 

The worst was back during New Years - new things changed - and messed everything up for days.
