Transaction entry - tags

Super simple RFE (for registers when category+tag are combined): when typing category and pressing "/", erase the previous tag so that auto-complete works. Right now, the old tag stays which means a) auto-complete doesn't work and b) I have to manually erase it otherwise I get a "combined tag" like "Education/BobSara" if I try and change from "Education/Sara" to "Education/Bob"...

I would not want Quicken to erase the existing tag. A better solution would be for Quicken to select the tag after the user presses "/". The selection would be pending delete; if the user started typing, it would be replaced by the first and subsequent keystrokes. If the user tabbed out of the field instead, the original tag would remain.

That's fine too. But curious - what is the use case where you'd type "/" but yet want the same tag to stay?

There isn't really a use case. It's just a matter of not allowing the system to delete anything without the user explicitly performing a Delete (or replace with typing) action of some kind. It would be a surprise to me if "/" performed deletion.

When I was looking at this because of this suggestion, I was actually surprised that pressing "/" did not select the tag. That's what I would expect. Instead, it just sits there.

Exactly. Annoying when I use "Auto:Fuel/Dick" and "Auto:Fuel/Jane" - Quicken only memorizes that as one entry (a change in tag doesn't result in two different entries), so it only has the most recently used one. If I then have to enter gas for the other person, I can pick from the recalled entry (sat Dick), TAB over to the cat/tag field, and then I'd like to type just "/J" and have it autocomplete to "Jane" (for a complete entry of "Auto:Fuel/Jane"). Instead, I have to type "/", shift-end, and then start typing the tag.

Also, iIf the category field contains "a:b/c" and you type ":", the "a" is kept and "b/c" is deleted. So to be consistent, that should also get tweaked so that just "b" is selected but not deleted until you start to type the new subcategory. And the tag "c" should stay until "/" is typed and then the tag gets selected.

    :-)

Separate from how many votes, does the quicken team not see how being able to edit an existing entry and using "/TAG" should set the tag? Not all that different from entering a new entry where "/TAG" sets the tag...

    I still support this idea.
