New online payee spontaneously created

I have been paying my Pacific Gas & Electric utility bill from Quicken via Bank of America Direct Connect for decades as a scheduled transaction (bill reminder). Today I paid my bill and something completely new occurred.
I got an email from B of A saying a new online payee was created. So I took a look and it was PG&E, added as a 2nd payee. The only difference was that instead of ending in 525, the account number got a hyphen and is 52-5 in the new payee. (This is how it appears on the statement, with the hyphen, but I never used it in the past.)
In Quicken, the old payee got {account number without the -5} appended to its name. Previously, there was no curly-brace descriptor in the payee name. This all seems innocuous, but strange.
Does anyone know what happened here?

Correction: the old payee did have the hyphen. I went back to an old backup and the one PG&E payee looked like this:
So the "old" payee in the previous post was actually the new one which was created with the curly-brace descriptor and without the hyphen. And this new one was not used in today's payment. So I wonder why it appeared.

Here's why I was confused about which was the old payee and which was the new. The B of A web site shows the payee with the hyphen as brand new and the payee without the hyphen as having been used in the past:
