QW2017 - get this error message, but works OK - You cannot create a new dataset...

I had been using Quicken 2006 for years. I had purchased Q 2017 in 2017 but never installed. I just installed it on new windows 10 computer and transferred my register data (dating back to 1997!!) It seems to be working OK, but when I boot up the software (2017) and when I'm backing up, I get this message box "You cannot create a new dataset or continue to perform your current task at this time. Please contact Quicken Support .... for help resolving". When I ignore/close this box, it all still seems to be working fine and all register content is up to date. When I contacted Quicken support, I was told that 2017 is no longer supported and I need to update to 2020 "subscription". Is anyone familiar with the error message I'm getting? If so, is there a way around or to eliminate it, and is my data at risk? I'd prefer to not move into the annual subscription model right now.

I suggest you download and apply the Quicken 2017 Release 20.5 Mondo update available at: http://www.quicknperlwiz.com/quicken-patches-us.html

I think you can safely ignore that warning.

Every Quicken data file gets a "data set" in the Quicken Cloud account.
There is stores things like the credit score information, online billers, and other service information (it is also used for Mobile/web transactions).

Some operations duplicate this "data set".  Recently it has been reported and restoring from backup is one such way that it creates a new "data set".  And for some reason Quicken Inc considers it important to keep these and never delete them.  And there is a limited amount of them they will allow.

The normal ways to get rid of these would be to either contact Quicken support and have them delete them or create a new Quicken data file with Quicken Mobile/Web Sync on so that you can get to a setting that allows deleting of the data set in the first file.  Both of these are probably off the table for you.

Another thought would be to create a new Quicken Id and associate your data file with it.

In any case, for Quicken 2017 there isn't anything in this "data set" that is needed, and as such if it isn't created/synced, there shouldn't be any problems caused by that fact.
