Online Balance shown in Quicken does not match actual bank balance

The online balance shown in Quicken does not match true bank balance. Instructions say to click the gear icon in the account and then the "Update balance" button. But there is no "Update balance" button. How do I correct the Online Balance in Quicken?

    Are you sure those "instructions" don't tel you to click "Update now?"  That's how you make a connection between that particular Quicken Account and the bank.

    Which instructions are you referring to?
    What bank are you using?
    What is the download protocol (Express Web Connect or Direct Connect) in use for this bank? See Tools / Account List for this information.
    The Online Balance is a downloaded value. For Express Web Connect - connected banks it is downloaded once a night at a random time. If the bank hasn't finished nightly processing at the time the Intuit aggregation server looks at the bank account, the amount may not have been updated yet.
    This value may also be inaccurate if the bank made changes to their webpages without informing Intuit of the change in advance.
