Pure speculation - What are the chances of Merging the Windows US and Canadian versions?

Normally I would say this is "unlikely", but two things have "hit me" lately.  The lack of release to the Windows Canadian version for almost a year, and this recent change when reinstalling:

First, they ask for me to log in with my Quicken Id and then this dialog comes up:

Why would they need to ask me which to install for?
If the install is just for US why would there be this question?
Not to mention my Quicken Id is tied to a Quicken Windows US subscription.

Out of curiosity I picked Canada and sure enough when it started up, it has a problem with logging in the Quicken Id.

But punching through that, and I get to this:

The version number is Windows US, but Edition is stated as Canada.

Other indications.

The data file switched to multiple currency even though it wasn't before, and notice there isn't a setting to turn it off.  This is a hallmark of the Canadian version because it requires multiple currency since the home currency isn't US.  Also, there isn't a way to change the home currency, and the ability to import prices, and historical prices, all artifacts of the Canadian version.

Also see how "checks" is spelled.  This comes up in many places.

No tax planner and look at the tax calendar.

Well maybe this is part of addressing an IDEA I proposed a long time ago, which can still be voted on, here:
Merge support for importing data from US and CA FIs/Banks for US and CA versions of QWin

It used to be that the program was US/CAN combined and you chose which you wanted at install.  They seem to be going back to the much earlier business model.  It sure would cut down on costs by not having to make most of the changes in the software twice.

Here is a screenshot from the install of Q2000, it was a install of Quicken with US/CAN as a choice:

It was possible then, it should be possible now.  They had split into separate US & CAN installs by 2004.

I don't believe this is the intent.  At least not initially.

I believe it is exactly what @splasher pointed out, they are still separate products, but the choice is made when installing.

BTW any Quicken Windows Canadian user can probably check this out and confirm this is the case.

They would probably want to do this on a separate machine, maybe a virtual machine.  But basically, the main reasons I can't fully check this out is because I don't have a Quicken Id tied to a Quicken Windows Canadian subscription, and I don't have any Canadian financial institutions.  Note that Quicken Windows US and Quicken Windows Canadian subscriptions don't "overlap".  A Quicken Windows US subscription can't be used with Quicken Windows Canadian and or the other way around.  Unlike the Quicken Mac product and the overlap between the Quicken Windows US and Quicken Mac.

Again, maybe that will change in the future, but that is the way it is right now.

I will state that I already know that there is work to be done to fully finish this.

For instance, I notice this pulldown menu is the same even when choosing Canada.

Certainly not a hard fix, but one of those ones that will need to be cleaned up.

I just want to note that no matter what, anyone trying using the Canada selection should not consider it a Quicken Inc supported configuration.

Note I installed the "US version" from this link, and the choice comes up when you start Quicken and it makes you log into your Quicken Id.

It seems that I have a magically Quicken Id!

@splasher let me know that this is happening for him, so I did some more checking.

No matter what data file pick I get the choice between US and Canada on reinstall.
But I have a Quicken Starter Quicken Id and an expired Premier Quicken Id that I use for testing.
In both cases when I used those Quicken Ids, I wasn't given a choice, it just picked the US version.

    Very strange!
