To amplify and explain on this request:
The new display order for investing transaction lists is apparently now sorted by Date - Action - Security, even if you accepted the transactions in a different order.
I have an account where I often receive several cash distributions on the same day and each one has a corresponding Buy on the sweep fund. To help keep track of the transactions, I typically accept them in pairs with the distribution followed by the Buy, so the cash balance is zero after each pair. In the past, the transaction list would be displayed in the order the transactions were accepted.
Now suddenly the Transaction list has been re-ordered, so for example the transactions for 12/22/20 look like this:
The four Bought's make an increasingly negative cash balance, which eventually ends up at zero after the 4 distributions. Note also that in this case because of the sort by Action, it is not alphabetical by security as described in the Release Notes.
I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but I would like the original Date - Order accepted order restored.

Thanks @Quicken Anja for escalating this as Ref. CTP-3496QWin Premier subscription2 -
Another possibility is to make it optional.
Note that just because we haven't seen this feature requested in this forum doesn't it couldn't have been requested by a different way. At least I hope they had a good reason for doing it.Signature:

I also agree with the sorted by Date - Action - Security, even if you entered or accepted the transactions in a different order is not the desired way for this to be done. I can not see why "out" operations should be moved ahead of "in" operations. I do not like seeing a series of negative cash balances because the transaction order I specifically entered was moved to some illogical order.1

This sort alphabetical thing is a bad thing. My broker has a chronological account statement page. Now it makes it very difficult to match these things up to find missing/mistyped entries in quicken. (I do not automatically download anything, as neither the brokers nor quicken know how to deal with options correctly. I tend to end up with so many unmatched opening/closing transaction, that it is easy for me to manually do the entries in quicken. But that is another discussion).
If quicken wants to keep it this way, add an option to choose between alphabetial and chronological.0 -

This is one of the reasons that I haven't updated to R40.xx.

If you are looking to avoid release with it, R39.17, R40.13, R40.21 have it.Signature:

The "Implemented" status for this Idea is incorrect, unless the status is based on some future release.
The Idea is to change the behavior in the current release, R40.21, so that it when the Date column in an investment transaction list is selected, it does NOT sort the list in Date - Action - Security name order, as it does in that release, but rather sorts it in Date - Order accepted order, as it did in R38.30, R39.23, and earlier releases.
Earlier comments in this discussion lay out clear rationales for continuing to offer the original sort order.
We have seen no explanation of why this change was made.
I hope Quicken is still considering this idea, either as a permanent change or as an optional setting.QWin Premier subscription1 -
Oops, I didn't notice until now that the idea was marked implemented. That doesn't seem right to me either until it actually is released.Signature:

Hello @Jim_Harman & @Chris_QPW,
Thanks for pointing out the status error in this Idea post. It seems it was marked as Implemented by mistake as it should have been marked as Planned (both statuses are right next to each other). I went ahead and corrected this.
Thank you!-Quicken Anja0 -
Absolutely agree.. why would someone make this change?? Extremely poor decision. It is driving me insane when all my transfer show after buys and I cannot change it no matter what. Please fix it ASAP. The new ordering method (seems to be alphabetical) should be an option, NOT default.1
-
How about just reverting back to the preferred sort by time and then figure out how to add an option for alphabetically sorting transactions? Or save yourselves a lot of time and forget about alphabetical sorting as it has no apparent use.2
-
PLEASE FIX! Not able to tolerate looking at out of order transactions that occur on same date in same account based on type of transaction & then security name. This is not a logical order of how transactions occur. This is a bookkeeping program not alphabet soup. This also has changed ALL existing transactions going back many years, not just new entries.0
-
Yes, I agree! Please bring back the earlier ordering based on order entered. Any buys and sells that happen on the same date should be order chronologically, not alphabetically! I would be interested in the rationale for this change. I am yet to understand why this was considered an improvement!0
-
As mentioned above, please bring back the old version right away (shouldn't be too difficult). Then, you can go ahead and figure out how to make the alphabetical order an option for those who want it. Or else, could you give some indication as to when this would be done?1
-
This change needs to be rectified ASAP. Hard to reconcile with bank statements.
Please bring back the old version or make it an options on the registry.0 -
Good news! QWin 41.9, now apparently in staged release, appears to resolve this issue.
At Edit > Preferences > Investment Transactions there is a new option "Sort same-day transactions by security name". This option defaults to un-checked, which restores the earlier behavior for both new and existing transactions.QWin Premier subscription1 -
Apparently the description would be more accurate as
"Sort same-day transactions by ACTION THEN security name".Still haven’t seen the case made for choosing that case.0
