More efficient sequencing when tabbing between fields for new investment transactions

I would find it more efficient if the tab sequence was date; type; security; amount
At the moment it seems to be date; type; (register amount field that can't be changed); date again; security; amount followed logically by other fields such as shares for reinvestment.
I'm trying to create a long history for some legacy investment accounts and I find myself tabbing the wrong number of times to get to a relevant field. There's no need to enter the date twice, there's no point in tabbing to a field that can't be changed.
To my mind, the peak efficiency follows from a single tab between each essential field. Multiple tabs increases the risk of errors when working quickly (i.e. not looking at the screen for each value).
