Transfers With Categories Still Not Recommended? (Q Mac)

I've always used a hack method of recording certain transactions such as Retirement Account contributions in a way that one line would specify the category for that contribution so it shows up in reports and another split in the transaction would have an adjustment and a final split for the actual transfer as we were always told that Quicken would be deprecating the ability to select both a category and transfer in the same transaction.

Is this still the case in Quicken For Mac. I noticed there's a preference setting in "Register" that states:

"Allow creation of linked transfers using the category field". What's the relevance of this setting? Should we still be using the hack method I described above?
