Trying to clear transactions in investment register fails - uncleared pencil mark still there

I entered some transactions manually in a register. There is nothing to download at the moment but when I highlight to clear the transactions (says uncleared with pencil mark) and check reconcile status to cleared, nothing happens. It just says not yet matched to a downloaded transaction. I don't want to match to any download transaction, just want it to accept and clear what I entered manually. Any ideas?
