why is my current balance in checking account list incorrect?

I assume that by "checking account list" you are referring to the "Account Bar", that vertical column of all your Quicken Accounts that's to the left or right of the screen.

Assuming that the current balance in the actual Account itself is correct, then one reason the balance could be different in the Account Bar is because you've selected the option to "Show Ending Balance in Account Bar."  Click on the Account Bar's gearwheel and see if that's the source of the problem.
