Crash during search of register

"Search transactions" on the top right bar results in Quicken crash. Using Quicken R47.15 on Windows 10. I have uploaded new Quicken software with no success. Anyone else having same issue? Any suggestions?

@kooroshnazifi  You might want to click the 3 dots to the right of the subject line of your message and then click Edit to correct the typo in your subject line to say "Crash" rather than "Cash"... but better yet, change it to "Crash during search of register" if that's what you're saying?   "Q search" doesn't mean anything to me.

Are you searching a banking or an investment account?   What have you entered as the search (any special characters)?

This is a general search of Quicken data for specific transactions. For example, I enter "toothbrush" in the search transactions and it will show me all entries that have "toothbrush" listed in it.

OK.  So, does it crash when you search for 'toothbrush'?  Can you reproduce the crash?

And, to clarify:  it sounds like you are using the global search at the top right of the main Quicken window... rather than the local register quick search (in the filter bar in a register) that filters as you type.

Can you confirm that your data file is on your C: drive, and not on either a network drive or a cloud service sync location such as dropbox, onedrive, etc?

And, does Help > About Quicken give you version 47.15 or newer?

Yes, I am using the global search at top right of the main Quicken window, since I am searching all accounts entries. My data file is on my C drive. About Quicken gives me R47.15 Build 27.1.47.15. The crash takes me to a quicken crash report window to submit the report by entering my email address and providing a description of the issue.

Can imagine your frustration, but I'm out of ideas.  Might be time to call customer support if someone else doesn't jump in here with any thoughts.

If you haven't done so already, please do the following actions:

    Validate and Supervalidate instructions

First save a backup file prior to performing these steps

    Validate:

    1. Click File
    2. Select Validate and Repair File...
    3. Select Validate File
    4. If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots". If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
    5. Click OK
    6. Close the Data Log
    7. Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    8. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    Super Validate:

    1. Click File
    2. Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Select Supervalidate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Thank you. I have done all of those, except for restoring my Quicken data file. Nothing has resolved the issue as of yet.

    Hello @kooroshnazifi,

We are sorry about these issues with crashing and freezing that seem to be continuing. Thank you for continuing to work with us on this issue.

I wanted to make sure: have you tried uninstalling the Quicken software using the steps listed in this Support Article, then deleting Quicken from the Program Files (x86) folder? You may then reinstall the software after following those steps using the steps listed here

I am eager to hear about your results.

    Thank you,

    Quicken Jared

@quickenjared. I have uninstalled Quicken software. Should I also remove Quicken from Program files (x86) folder? It contains a folder called ScreenShare, application extensions called: Quicken.Authorization.dll, QuickenHostControl.dll, QWVER.DLL, SendError.dll, widevinecdmadapter.dll, and a VLC Media File called TAX, and an SCD file called TAX.SCD, and a PRI file called TAX.PRI
If I delete Quicken folder, all these files will be removed. Please advise.

@quickenjared....I uninstalled Quicken software, deleted Quicken folder in my Program files (x86), downloaded and installed Quicken software and also ran super validate. None has resolved my issue with the crash. Not sure what else to do?

    Hello @kooroshnazifi

Thanks so much for getting back to me about this. I am sorry that this issue is continuing, even after all of these earlier troubleshooting steps have been attempted.

Unfortunately, given the ongoing nature of this issue, I recommend reaching out to Quicken Support. You can do this with the information provided in this link. They will need to work with you in order to troubleshoot and diagnose this issue in greater detail with the tools and resources available to them, uniquely. I do wish that we could provide more advice from the Quicken Community, but Support's help will be necessary in this situation.

I hope that is helpful, and feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.

    Thank you,

    Quicken Jared

Just as one more datapoint while you're trying to reach someone who can help you ... do you have another computer available to you, even temporarily?  If so, install Quicken on it, copy your data file over, and see if the crash happens there.  If not, then you might be able to know if it is something unique to the current computer vs your data file itself...

Patient: Doc, it hurts when I do this.
    Doctor: Don't do that.

Does it work if instead you do CTRL-F find all in any field?

Control F also crashes the Quicken software.
