Register Customization

I just 'upgraded' from Quicken 2017 and am regretting it already. There are many [Removed - Language]/unnecessary things that display now that I can't find a way to get rid of. The 2 most annoying are the Bill and Income Reminders (which I have never used since starting with Quicken in 1991) and the new screen-hogging bar at the bottom of the registers showing the number of transactions and balances. I want to get rid of both since I don't use them and would prefer to see more of my register without having to maximize Quicken. Is there any way to get rid of these? If not, what do I need to do to dump the new version of Quicken and go back to the 2017 version?

    Hello @KimF ,

We are sorry about this problem with inconvenient or cumbersome display options. Thank you for inquiring about this here on the Quicken Community.

You should be able to hide the Bills & Income tab by navigating to View > Tabs to Show and then clicking on the Bills option in the dropdown that appears so that the checkmark near to it disappears. You can also hide the Accept Transactions Register by navigating to Edit > Preferences > Downloaded Transactions and clicking Automatically add to Banking Registers so that the box near to it contains a checkmark.

Let us know how this works.

    Thank you,

    Quicken Jared

I was able to get rid of the Transactions bar in the registers - thank you. I don't download transactions so never would have found that fix.

Unfortunately, the other issue remains. There is no Tabs to Show on the View menu.

Correction: The Transactions bar is still showing at the bottom of the registers. I want it completely gone.

The number of transactions is annoying and the current balances show in the Account box. If these issues can be addressed, is there a way to cancel my subscription and go back to my 2017 version of Quicken? Probably not as there isn't profit in it for the company that way. Very, very sorry I upgraded.

If you still have a working QW 2017 installed on another computer, you have a chance of reverting back to QW 2017. You'll need the .ini file from the working installation to make any new installs of QW 2017 work.

If you are within 30 days of purchase of the subscription version, you can cancel and get a refund.

Have you considered trying viewing account registers as a pop up window? There is a preference setting for that.

I still have the original 2017 software download on my computer but I only have the 1 computer so it may not be possible. I should have just stayed with 2017. It had some problems but was better than the current version. I hate it when software companies force their view of what I want to see on screen and don't allow it to be turned off.

I tried the pop up windows but they make my screen too cluttered. Plus, the stupid transaction number/current balance bar at the bottom of each register is still there.

I am running QW 2017. There is a bar at the bottom of the account register with transaction count and balances. I don't believe there is any way to turn it off.

Is the issue that you can't see very many transactions and you want to display more transactions?

It's not that exactly. I have my Q window set to a specific size so that I can see financial info online while entering it into Q. I just hate clutter. I can make it bigger if I want to see more transactions. I don't remember seeing the bar at the bottom of the registers in Q 2017. Maybe it was smaller and less noticeable. It's very noticeable in the upgrade and redundant since I have the account list on the side. Plus, I really don't care how many transactions there are.

Have you considered setting the Account Bar to collapsed? That would free up horizontal space.

There is a register preference in the subscription version for row heights. The Compact setting is the same row height as pre subscription versions.

I like having the account box (on the left side of the Q window) so I can scan all my accounts quickly as I enter data. I do have my row height set at compact. It just one of those many irritations that come when I can't customize as much as I'd like to.

The upgraded Q just crashed - again. The joys of improved performance.
