Can no longer download qfx files from VISA

I am using Quicken for Windows Version R47.15 Build 27.147.15.

Last week my bank "upgraded" their web site (the VISA portion of it) and it now no longer supports Quicken file downloads. In fact it now only supports CSV file downloads!

Does (or will) some version of Quicken support importing CSV files for credit card transactions? (My version currently only supports CSV file imports for security prices.)

There seems to be a product from ProperSource called CSV2QFX that converts CSV files to qfx. Is this a good product? Are there alternatives?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Jim

Please tell us the name of the bank. There may already be discussions underway regarding this change.

    Thanks for responding.
In the list of supported banks I can find 2 entries for your CU. Both of them support downloading via One Step Update. You might want to try one or the other.

    • 02981 02981 02981 Mid-Atlantic FCU Credit Card http://www.mafcu.org 301-944-1800 https://onlinebanking.mafcu.org/mafcuonline_41/uux.aspx#/login ACTIVE CREDIT&WEB-CONNECT BANKING,CREDIT,ACCOUNTINFO&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA
    • 08335 08335 08335 Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Un https://www.mafcu.org/index.cfm 1-800-95-MAFCU https://onlinebanking.mafcu.org/mafcuonline_41/uux.aspx#/login ACTIVE BANKING&WEB-CONNECT BANKING,CREDIT,ACCOUNTINFO&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA

There have been reports of some banks disallowing QFX file downloads from their website while still allowing regular downloads via Express Web Connect and One Step Update or “Update Now” from within Quicken. Try switching to One Step Update.

    Thanks, but ...

I use https://www.mafcu.org. That at least gets me to the web site. http://www.mafcu.org gets me there as well.

Trying https://onlinebanking.mafcu.org/mafcuonline_41/uux.aspx#/login ACTIVE CREDIT&WEB-CONNECT BANKING,CREDIT,ACCOUNTINFO&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA (or just https://onlinebanking.mafcu.org/mafcuonline_41/uux.aspx#/login) result in "Web server is returning an unknown error"

Trying https://www.mafcu.org/index.cfm gets me to the same web site as http://www.mafcu.org with a messages saying "Sorry - Page Not Found. We're sorry, but the page you're looking for no longer exists. You might find what you're looking for by using the search above or by clicking on one of the categories. If you still can't find the information you're looking for, please contact us and we'll get back to you as soon as possible."

Trying https://onlinebanking.mafcu.org/mafcuonline_4/uux.aspx#/login ACTIVE BANKING&WEB-CONNECT BANKING,CREDIT,ACCOUNTINFO&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA gets the "Web server is returning an unknown error" message.

I was using One Step Update for the VISA account at MAFCU but it stopped working a couple of years ago. The problem was that the qfx file being sent contained invalid data in the <ORG> field ("<ORG>Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union" vs. "<ORG>Mid-Atlantic FCU" and <FID> and <INTU.BID> fields (2981 vs. 8335 for both). I contacted MAFCU about it but never got a resolution. I found a hack: download the qfx file, modify the incorrect fields with Notepad++, and then import the corrected file into Quicken. I've been doing that for a few years. I attempted, again, to set up One Step Update but that does not work. It did not recognize that I had a VISA account. All of my other accounts at MAFCU are set up for One Step Update and they work.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

I'm guessing, but you should have been able to deactivate your VISA account in Quicken and then go into Edit Account Details and blank out the Financial Institution name. Restart Quicken and then reactivate it using the Add Account process ("+" icon in Account Sidebar title). Use “MAFCU Credit Card” as the financial institution name. This should get you to a list of accounts found at the bank (just the VISA account). Carefully LINK the account to the already existing account register: click LINK and select the correct register from the popup list.

Your checking, savings accounts should remain connected to the other FI name.

    Additional notes:

I just noticed that the links you included in your note were preceded by "02981 02981 02981" and "08335 08335 08335" respectively. Is it a coincidence that I had to change the <FID> and <INTU.BID> from 2981 to 8335 prior to this latest breakage?

The breakage occurred Sat Feb 25- Mon Feb 27. Well - when I tried to use the VISA account page of the MAFCU site on Feb 25 it failed and there was a message on the site that said that the VISA account page was down for maintenance and would be back up Mon Feb 27. I didn't try again until the following Saturday, March 3. Is it possible that the information you have on MAFCU is out of date because it has not been updated recently?

    Thanks

Is it possible that the information you have on MAFCU is out of date because it has not been updated recently?

Quite possible if the bank neglected to coordinate their changes with Quicken or Intuit as the data aggregator account manager.

Have you tried the deactivate / reactivate of your VISA account, as I suggested?

Can you be more specific about how to deactivate/active?

What I have tried is this:
    1. Right click on the account and select edit/delete account.
    2. Delete the account information from the general tab (Financial institution, account number, credit limit)
    3. select the online services tab
    4. Press deactivate button and confirm
    5. Restart Quicken
    6. Press + button
    7. In the Search for your financial institution window that come up enter "MAFCU Credit Card" and press the search button and got "No results found."
    8. Tried "Mid-Atlantic" and got results including "Mid-Atlantic FCU Credit Card" - selected that and pressed next (other options were "Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Un" and "Mid-Atlantic Corporate FCU"
    9. Entered Login ID and Password and pressed connect.
    10. Selected method for receipt of secure access code and pressed OK
    11. Entered secure access code and pressed OK
At this point what showed up in the add account window was a page that said "We found the following accounts" and it listed my checking and savings accounts but not my VISA account. None had any option to add to quicken or link to anything. Also on the header above that list it said "Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Un" not "Mid-Atlantic FCU Credit Card" which I had selected in step 8.
    12. I pressed next and it quit. No new account was added.

I repeated steps 6, 8-11 (To convince myself I hadn't typed something wrong). At that point what showed up in the add account window was a page that said "We found the following accounts" and it listed my checking and savings accounts but not my VISA account. All had Action options drop downs with "Link to existing.." Also on the header above that list it said "Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Un" not "Mid-Atlantic FCU Credit Card" which I had selected in step 8.

    At this point I canceled.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

I still can't download qfx files from Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union VISA account not can I set up one step update for it. I can onl;y download VISA transactions in csv format.

I have contacted Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union about this but, so far, they have not responded.

    What options do I have?

Is CSV2QFX from ProperSource a viable solution? I have looked at qfx files and the csv file that I can download and there is information in the qfx file that is not in the csv file. E.g., account balance, available balance, unique transaction ID. Will Quicken acept a qfx file produced buy CSV2QFX without this information? If it does, what do a lose because of this?

Does this problem only affect the VISA accounts at Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union or does this affect all VISA accounts everywhere? In other words, should I cancel my Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union VISA account and get a VISA acount somewhere else or should I abandon VISA and use another credit card such as Master Card, Discover, etc.?

Are there other alternatives that I haven't thought of?

    Thanks
    Jim
