Just add the memo field to the list of fields in the subtotal dropdown in most reports

    What's your specific need for a report, subtotaled by Memo?
    Can you give an example, please?
    And have you considered using Tags as an alternative to the Memo?

    I use the memo field to keep track of temporary short term projects. Tags get messy as the number of them get larger.
