why are my transaction categories being changed to 'uncategorized' after i download new transactions

I am trying to grow into this software but it is becoming VERY HARD. It is very frustrating. It is not intuitive as Q2007. I am having several issues with this but for right now I am trying to understand why I have a whole batch of uncategorized transactions. I know I had them properly categorized prior to my latest download from Chase Bank.

Are the transactions you manually entered still in your register?

Do you have duplicate transactions? That is, the properly categorized transaction record, and an uncategorized transaction record from the bank.

The Payee may be a little different, and the amount may be different (although unlikely), and the date may be off a day or three, but can you identify the banks record that matches your entry?

If so, you can often click and drag one of these two transactions on top of the other and Quicken will merge them. And at the same time, Quicken will learn to match similar pairs of transaction records if it sees them in the future.

But, if the pre-existing transaction is one from your conversion from Q2007 and it is a download transaction, then the click and drag will fail with a circle and a slash thru it when you hover over the other transaction record.

In this case, you will just have to delete one of the transaction records.

The good news is this kind of duplication should not happen going forward.
