Is there a search and replace feature? I'd like to clean up my history.

Could you provide more information about what information you're looking to search and replace? There is no global search-and-replace command, but there are ways to make global changes to certain information.

Highest priority is categories, then payees.

Also is there a way to search for something like xy without finding xyz?

To edit categories, or payees, simply open Window > Categories or Window > Payees, find the one you want to edit, and change it. The change will be global across your entire database.

Now, how do I promote a category? I have "Clothing" and "Shopping:Clothing." I'd like to just have "Clothing."

Another example of a promotion: I'd like to merge "Meals" with "Meals:Just Us."

To merge "Clothing" and "Shopping:Clothing" into "Clothing", click and drag the subcategory up or down -- you'll see a blue line. (Make sure you don't drag it under another category, but at the same level as a main category.) A dialog will pop up: "A category named 'Clothing' already exists. Do you want to merge these categories together?" Click the Merge Them button and your subcategory and category will be merged into one Category.
