Just updated to Quicken for Mac 2007 for Lion and can not open files

Unknown Member
edited February 2018 in
after buying and installing the "new" Quicken for Mac 2007 Lion software update I get this window when trying to open my file:
"Quicken has found corrupt data in your file. If you continue to use this file you may experience program instability, further data corruption, and incorrect results.
we recommend that you visit Quicken Support to check for possible solutions to this issue.(I have done that) your other options are to ignore this issue and continue opening the data file ( it won't let me open it) or quit."

Quiting seems to be the only option that works.
Does anyone know a solution for this issue?
Thanks John

Any possibility of rebuilding your Quicken Data File (QDFM) from the "last" version of Quicken that you used.  This might very well resolve the issue.

I can no longer run my "last" version of Quicken because I am running mac OS X 10.1.8 and it does not support the power PC architecture Quicken 2007 for mac - which is why I updated to the quicken 2007 for Lion version and now nothing works...

The error message about 'corrupt data found' is often referring to a damaged Quicken Quotes file. Refer to http://knowledgebase.quicken.com/support/help/investing/GEN84383.html for info troubleshoot that issue.

    Hi Quicken Steve,
I already tried this "possible solution" recommended by Quicken It did not work.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks
    John
PS. at the bottom of the error message I have three boxes I can click: continue, quit, and, check for solutions.
clicking continue does nothing - quit is quit and check for solutions brings me to the page  you just suggested which does not work.
I have tried opening past back ups of the data file - no luck there either.

    LQU,

Hang in there! Same thing just happened to me a few minutes ago. The procedure referenced to delete the bad Quote file and repopulate a new one based on transaction history and historical quotes worked perfectly. And it worked on a very large, complex data file (53 accounts, data back to 1990, and untold transactions). Good luck.

    Hi williakz,
I followed the instructions on the "Remove and Rebuild Security Price History in Quicken for Mac 2007 and older" page - nothing!

I delete the Quote file and still can not open the data file to rebuild anything.
Does anyone have any other suggestions to get my quicken for mac 2007 Lion to open? I can not go back to snow leopard.
    Thanks

Sorry you're having such a time with this. I'm out of my depth here, but I have a few suggestions for you. First, make a copy of your (corrupted) QDF. Make sure you're copying the correct (corrupted) file. Once you're backed up with a copy tucked away somewhere, you're free to hack away at the problem file. I suggest you go into the Show Package Contents area described in the Quotes rebuilding procedure and play around some. Maybe try putting an empty Quotes file in place of the corrupted one, or jiggering around with some of the other internals, or whatever. Since you have your QDF backed up, you can always get back to the status quo ante, right? Good luck and be sure to let everyone know if you make any headway.

williakz  OOPS! - QDFM instead of QDF (keep forgetting I'm in MacWorld now)

If you can't open a file in Qmac, there are limited options to fix the problem. If deleting the Quotes file didn't resolve, you can try dragging the data file out of the package and opening that directly. That will sometimes allow you to access the file.

Show Package Contents on your Quicken data file. Open the Contents folder and drag the Data File file out of the package. Try to open that Data File. If you can access the file, you should do a Save a Copy and reindex the file.

If dragging the file out of the package doesn't work, look for a functioning backup file.

You may also want to go back to your prior version of Quicken and see if the file will open there. If it will, Save a Copy and reindex the file, and then try to access it in QMac 2007 for Lion.

    Hi Quicken Steve,

"if you can't open a file in Qmac, there are limited options to fix the problem. If deleting the Quotes file didn't resolve, you can try dragging the data file out of the package and opening that directly. That will sometimes allow you to access the file."  Tried it - does not open

"Show Package Contents on your Quicken data file. Open the Contents folder and drag the Data File file out of the package. Try to open that Data File. If you can access the file, you should do a Save a Copy and reindex the file."  tried it -does not open.

Tried this too - can not access the file in QMac 2007 for Lion

I have trie deleting all quicken off my computer restarting and re-downloading the Qmac 2007 for Lion and then opening the reindexed file - nothing! Same error message.

The file is password protected - could that be the problem?

A corrupted password doesn't usually return this error, but its possible. If you can access your file in a different version, try removing the password. If you can't access the file in a different version of Quicken to remove the password, let me know and I'll contact you offline to work with you to remove the password.

    Hi Quicken Steve,
I removed the password on an old mac Power PC running Leopard,  moved the file onto my Powerbook running QMac 2007 for Lion and I got the same error message.
I tried pulling the data file out of the contents folders onto the desktop to open same error message...

    any other thoughts?

The only thing to do at this point is to verify you can open other files to confirm the error is file specific. Hold down command+option and open Q2007. Click Cancel at the Open File dialog. Go to Quicken file menu and choose File > New > File and create a test file. Restart Quicken.

If the test file opens, this is a file specific problem. Look for a backup file you can use.

I followed you instructions and was able to open a test file on QMac for Lion.
But I still don't understand why the data file that worked perfectly on my Powerbook running Qmac 2007 Snowleopard will not open after upgrading to Qmac 2007 for Lion.
That same data file opens Quicken 2007 onmy old power pc running on OS 10.5.8.

    Why?
What could possible be wrong with the file if it opens everywhere except on QMac for lion?
do I need to delete the old Qmac 2007 (pre lion) off the computer??  would that fix it?

    Thanks

Finally figured how to get this to work.  (from 2005 PPC mac to 2007 Mountain Lion )
1 What ever you do don't try to open your older original files with 2007 !
They won't work on either version after that.
    2. Use your old computer to open you original files in my case it's ver 2005 for Mac on a PPC.
    3. Save a copy
4 Then duplicate the copy you just made
5 Then open the 2nd copy with 20007.
    6. For safety sake I made a copy with ver 2007 and use that.

I can't believe it's this hard. Quicken Tech dept SUCKSSS. I paid $25 for 90 days and all I was told is that i have a corrupt file with no explanation on how to fix it. I am going to get a refund for sure.

What happen to that letter from the CEO of INTUIT about not leaving MAC in the lurch.
Well that exactly what you have done.

Before I figured this out I was exporting for the 2005 ver to a .QIF file and importing in IBANK then exporting from IBANK to a .QIF file and importing into 2007.

The export from 2005 won't import into 2007 but 2007 will import from the IBANK export.

Really weird that Quicken has let it come to this.
