I installed Quicken Home Inventory on my new HP Desktop 64bit with Windows 8.1.  It was in the C:Program Files (x86)Quicken folder.  I used this link http://knowledgebase.quicken.com/support/help/installing/installing-quicken-home-inventory-and-emergency-records-organizer/GEN82760.html

Then I found QHI.exe in programs and sent a shortcut to my Desktop.  The data file ends in .IDB.  It should be in My Documents (or just Documents) in the Quicken folder.  Or search for it.

I followed the process in the link and it still did not show Inventory in Quicken and will not run from the desktop icon.

Try this, look for the QHI.exe and make it compatible with Windows XP (if possible in Windows 8.1).
Change the Quicken to Classic view. This can be done through the Preferences (if you are not already in that mode).

Also, just to make sure are you talking about the embedded version of QHI or the stand alone version called Quicken Home Inventory Manager?

I am trying to install the Quicken Home Inventory Manager (QHIM.exe). It gives a Windows error when I try to run it. I have reinstalled, etc. Nothing works.  Quicken should be better than this.

If you are talking about the stand alone version it probably will install on a Windows 8 system.

It was discontinued a few years ago.
There is no support for it.

It is the stand alone version of Quicken Home Inventory. When you try to run it on Win. 8.1 you get a Windows error.

    Sorry about this.
I had a typo in my previous post.
I said, "If you are talking about the stand alone version it probably will install on a Windows 8 system."

I should have said "If you are talking about the stand alone version it probably will NOT install on a Windows 8 system."

The stand alone version which was discontinued a few years ago is not being supported any longer.
