How do I set up a budget with the same detail as Quicken for Mac 2007?

I like most of what I see in QE for Mac, but when it comes to setting up a budget, I am used to the Quicken 2007 for Mac ability to create a budget for each month of an entire year, to view all of the months together in column view, to enter dollars & cents amounts (not just dollars). QE looks like it only allows dollar entries and only allows single-month views and that only for the current and previous month.

Am I missing something?

No, you are not. This is one area that the developers admit that they could do a lot more on. I think we will see improvements in time.

Well, Quicken has helped me avoid bankruptcy over the years mainly by allowing me to plan months ahead within a budget....everything else flowed from that exercise. So I hope they get to work ob replicating what Quicken 2007 for Mac offered in that regard. The rest of QE looks pretty good to me, feels stable and very readable. But the lack of budget capabilities is a show-stopper for me. I will keep the program on my Mac and check for updates but will continue with Quicken 2007 for Mac out of necessity for budget planning purposes.

qball:  I feel the same way!  The budgets in QE for Mac drive me crazy!  I haven't made a budget for 4 months because I'm used to the budgets in Quicken 2007.  I hope I can keep my finances under control because I really don't know what to do at this point.

I too miss the Quicken for Mac 2007 budget capabilities.  And as I'm just experimenting, I wonder about a report with the month to month carryover for all my budgeted categories.  This is absolutely critical for me.

I agree. I spent good money and lots of time to move to Quicken Essentials for Mac and it just doesn't cut it.

You can actually see three months at a time, I think. But I am with the rest of you. I am going back to my old Quicken. I will have to re-enter all the stuff I posted into Quicken Essentials. What a chore! I need to set up a budget for the year. How could Intuit have issued this faulty piece of work? Oh, well. Calm down. It is not the End of the World.

Well, I've slept on it and have decided to stay with QE for a while. The older Quicken was giving me problems, too. It's always a chore learning a new program.

I too have not written QEM off. It did import my old Quicken data files error-free, and that is ten years of data!
The screens look great, the performance is fine......and it will work fine on the upcoming Mac Lion software so the path forward is assured.

But, I MUST be able to look at monthly budget, in dollars and cents, with a column for each month across an entire year. Just like Quicken 2007. It has already been done, so it cannot be that hard.

So, I am encouraged that QEM is mostly there now for my rather simple needs. But I need that budget functionality, and am really hoping to see it in the next update.

If anyone from Quicken ever reads this forum, PLEASE respond to us and give us some clue as to when/if there will be real budget function added.

That said, the ease of use of the rest of QE is really great so I have reluctantly decided to stick with QE for Mac and do my longer-term budget in a spreadsheet for now. (Ridiculous that I have to do that when using the leading money-management software!)

    Please, Quicken folks, respond here.

The Terms of Use state: "Intuit has no obligation to monitor Postings or other materials. " So there you have it, although one would hope that Intuit does it anyway, just for its own sake. Also if you notice the number of "Views by  Community," it is ridiculously small, and I just wonder what the problem is! Oh, well . . .
