Where is the More Accounts in the Account Bar on Quicken Mac - Hidden accounts not working as expect

Hidden accounts is not working as expected. In QW we were able to hide accounts but still have access to them in the account list under a separate 'More Accounts' field. This is missing in Quicken for Mac, so you can no longer hide accounts. In the hide account feature there are two checkboxes - neither one works as expected. Please make it work the way Windows does. I now have to keep every account unhidden which is a pain when many are currently unused. I still want all these accounts showing in reports, I just don't want them on my sidebar if they are not used that often.

If you go to Accounts > Hide and Show Accounts, you see there are two checkboxes for hiding accounts. Checking the box for Lists will hide the account in the left sidebar, in the transaction register for All Accounts, in the dropdown list of accounts in the Transfer field of transactions, and anywhere there's a Filter for selecting accounts. Checking this box basically lets you see historical data from the account in reports, but doesn't give you access to make new transactions or even notice the account in the main window. Checking the second box for Reports will hide the account from all reports and graphs.

I'm a longtime Mac user, so not familiar with the Windows version, but if you're saying you want the accounts to show in reports but not in the sidebar, then checking the Hide in Lists checkbox and not the Hide in Reports checkbox should accomplish exactly wheat you are asking for. This is exactly how I have all my closed/defunct accounts configured in Quicken 2015.

If that doesn't work the way you're expecting, please elaborate on what you are trying to do that this configuration does not accomplish.

This does not work the way Windows does.  On Windows, if you choose to hide an account from the sidebar, there is an option underneath the accounts that says 'More Accounts' which will give you access to the hidden accounts.  On the Mac, there is no way to achieve this.  So when I have an inactive account and choose to hide it and then want to go look at it for any reason, it is very cumbersome to unhide/rehide the account.
In my mind, these accounts are not really hidden but completely blocked from access.
Microsoft Money used to implement this a different way.  They would allow you to mark accounts as 'Favorites' and that determined what would show up automatically.  But you still had access to all the other accounts.  On the Mac version, you do not.  So for this reason, the hide accounts does not work at all for me and cannot be used. I hope this explains it better.

Okay, I understand what you are saying, although I might disagree with your conclusion that the software "cannot be used" because of this. It takes one menu command and two clicks to hide or unhide an account. I understand this is not as easy as pulling down a menu to access a hidden account, but it doesn't seem *hugely* more complex -- certainly not so bad that the software "cannot be used." For most users, I think the need to dig into a previously-hidden account is a one-every-so-often need, not an everyday need; if you're needing to look at hidden accounts much more frequently, I'm not sure why you'd hide them in the first place.

That said, we all have different ways we'd like to configure the software around our own financial tracking methodologies, so I'm all for changes to make the software more configurable. During beta testing of Quicken 2015, a number of people expressed interest in being able to custom-configure various aspects of the left sidebar, and I'd encourage you to visit this web page: http://intuitquicken.zuberance.com/reviewV2/start/92868615 to express your desire to be able to have hidden accounts accessible via "More Account" or something similar in the left sidebar. (You can type a detailed description in the "Did we miss your favorite feature?" box.) The developers are using this web page to gather input from users about what features and performance tweaks to make to the software as they continue to develop it.

Yep - it would be best if this was more configurable.  I think I read that not everyone likes the 'More Accounts' option in Windows and may prefer it this way.  I didn't mean to imply that it could not be used, just that I will not use it until it works more as I would expect.  As it is, I use the Windows version primarily but am hoping to one day switch over to using the Mac version once it has more of the missing features.  This was just one of the things I noticed that did not work the way I am used to and whether it was intended or not, I was not happy with the way it was implemented on the Mac.  As you stated, I am all for making the Mac version as configurable as possible so that it can suit the preferences of all the users.  Thanks for the suggestion on adding this feature to that site.  I will do that.

I think part of the philosophy the development team has been using from the start with Quicken 2015 for Mac is to intentionally NOT re-create every feature and button from prior Mac and Windows versions of the software, and to plan to make iterative changes and additions as they get feedback from users. The legacy Quicken for Mac was developed over more than 20 years, Quicken for Windows even longer -- and they have very complex code bases with a lot of accumulated features that were developed over those many years. The Mac development effort has tried to peel back the layers to start with core functionality, in some cases implementing it somewhat differently than the legacy products. Then, if enough users speak up to say that specific functionality is missing or difficult to use, they can add/change functionality. Over the next year or two, they will hopefully develop the current product into a Quicken that is robust enough to satisfy most users, without having the complexity of tons of features few people ever use.
