OL-290 Download Errors

edited October 2018 in

Approximately 20 days ago my Quicken 2007 stopped downloading transactions from all of my financial institutions. I saw the following post that seemed to address it:

https://qlc.intuit.com/announcements/1003948

However, that post was 17 days ago and the answer to the problem was to upgrade to an $80 Quicken 2015 for Mac that so far the forums have vilified on it's Mac compatibility or to move to Web based downloading which breaks the existing download transaction history.

Is there a more recent answer to this issue or has someone found a work around so the technology will work as it's supposed to? I use almost all of the Quicken products and am used to the lack of Mac support but it's never been this bad when there is a major issue.

Thank you,

Jeff

As of today, 11/3/14, nothing had changed in regards to the situation laid out on the Announcement you've linked in your Question.

When there is new information, we will be updating that Announcement.

Can you provide detailed information about this problem and what is being done to resolve it at Quicken?  Which Financial Institutions are affected?  Are all Quicken products affected, or do some work properly?  It was suggested that the new Quicken product for the Mac will work, but the transition from Quicken Mac 2007 to the new Quicken Mac 2015 version is as significant a change as the move to a competing product.  Such a move cannot and should not be taken without proper planning and testing.

Having been involved in IT for over 40 years and in network support (Tier 2 and 3) for over 10 years, I would have been fired if I attempted to provide a customer with an explanation that was as vague and devoid of facts as the referenced Announcement.  The announcement did not provide any details as to the nature of the problem and what was being done to resolve the failure and to determine the root cause(s) of that failure. It offered no timetable for resolution and did not provide a schedule for status updates.

I understand that Quicken's focus is on its newly released product.  However, your support for Quicken-Mac 2007 can be seen as an indicator of the support that will be provided for Quicken Mac 2015. If you do not adequately support a loyal (and some might say long-suffering) user community, why should we expect that you will provide any better support to those who purchase the new product?   I have been using Quicken for the Mac since its earliest versions and I do not relish a change to a different program.

I cannot imagine that a problem of this nature would have been handled in a similar manner, had it occurred with one of your "Turbo Tax" versions.

Request you provide additional details as to the nature of the problem, the number of financial institutions affected, an estimated time to resolve communications with those affected institutions, and the plan to resolve the problem.

    Very Respectfully,

    Bruce

I just talked to tech support at my brokerage. He said that Google identified a "poodle" virus in the communication between Quicken 2007 & financial institutions. Quicken is aware of it, but he did not know if they would do anything about it because it is affecting the older version (2007) & they might not fix it to force us to buy the 2015 version. He said to protect the security of customer transactions, the brokerage turned off the ability to download transactions to Quicken 2007. So until Quicken comes up with a security patch, we will not be able to download transactions. That is the straight answer.

Helpful, but the solution stinks. Couldn't Quicken at least give us 2007 users a discount? I installed 2007, the newest version, in 2011 or later. It was 4 years old at that time, so the 20% of the computer world that is Mac must not be important to Intuit. I need Quicken to use Turbo Tax too. Why buy TurboTax if it won't work with Quicken? So the options are a non-working 2007 version or a non-connected 2015 version. Great choices !

I was told by Fidelity Brokerage (800-544-7595 web support) last week that Quicken is working on a new patch to be released in mid December. In the mean time, you can also try Moneydance [Sales pitch removed] You can set it put input your transactions, then export the file as a QIF file. The file then can be re-imported into your Quicken 2007. I bought it 2 weeks ago and it works fine. Quicken 2015 lacks Bill Pay which many find disconcerting.

Please be sure to read Intuit's official statement on this issue here -

    https://qlc.intuit.com/announcements/1003948

Heads up - if you decide to use Web Connect, you will need to deactivate the accounts from Direct Connect (for Bill Pay) first. To do so, open the Lists menu > Accounts > click account > Edit button > set Download method to "not enabled" > set FI to "none selected" > Click OK button. Then you can download and import the Web Connect (*.qfx) file from the bank's website and import it. You'll get a screen that will let you link the download to existing accounts and the original account will be available to link.

It appears that Intuit is in the process of fixing this problem for Q2007/Mac, presumably by adding TSL support. They hope to have a working version out by the end of November. See https://qlc.intuit.com/announcements/1003948?jump_to=announcement_update_2281754.
