My bank.. Altra Federal Credit Union just did an upgrade this weekend. Their instructions said to deactivate the existing account in Quicken. Download the web connect file and then do an import on it. When I do I get the error mentioned above.

Thanks for the advice. However, this didn't work. I should mention that one step update is not allowing me to deselect before updating.

If the information hasn't been updated in Quicken you should reach out to customer support: http://www.quicken.com/contact-support.  They would be able to forward the information up.

The file I downloaded from the bank's website is the one throwing an error upon importing into quicken. I did try to change it to Altra Federal Credit Union-New but that process kept trying to add a new account even though I was trying to reactivate the account in Quicken.

Did you deactivate the account, exit Q, restart Q, and then re-activate with the "-New" name?  THEN, try the import.

" ... but that process kept trying to add a new account ....".

Try removing the financial institution name and account number from the deactivated account before you import.
See the General tab of the Edit Account Details dialog for the account.

Yes I removed the FI name and number under the general tab. When I try to reactivate the account with the "new" name it just adds a new account. Which is really weird.

Near the end of the activate process, you should get a drop down permitting you to tell Quicken how to handle the download.
That drop down usually defaults to "Add", but it also contains the choices "Link" and "Ignore". You should choose "Link".

It never gets to that point. I enter the name of the FI and it just goes straight to adding a new account.

Try using the "Add an Account" process. It normally provides the Add, Link, Ignore options too.

Then let it create the new account, move your existing transactions to the new account (http://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/faq-how-do-i-move-transactions-between-quicken-accounts), and delete the old account.

I was just on the chat with customer service for 2 hours. That was one thing we tried. It ended up doubling all my transfers.. still didn't work and I had to restore from backup.

My records indicate that your financial institution also offers Web Connect downloads. Have you tried Web Connect - it's much better than manually entering transactions.

The web connect download is what is throwing this error. I deleted the old account, but every account I transferred to, from the deleted account still had a bunch of duplicate transactions.

I spent 2 hours with customer support the other day. The best answer they could give me is that quicken doesn't recognize the <FID> attribute inside the QFX file. It sounds like a logical answer but I haven't been able to contact Altra yet.

But would indicate that Altra is sending the WRONG value (since it's Web Connect, it MUST be Altra sending it).  Save a download file to your desktop, and open it with NotePad or WordPad (NOT MS Word).  What's the FID value shown?

It's working for me now too. Thanks for letting me know. I figured I couldn't be the only one with this issue. Because I was curious, the <INTU.BID> tag changed value in the QFX file. So Altra must have had to change something on their part. Sorry to bother your customer support Quicken!
